So having just had my surgery Monday with Dr. Mcginn I'm kind of interested into what people thought was the hardest or worst part of recovery.
For me so far it was hands down the days in the hospital after the surgery... Now that I'm in the B and B things are much, much nicer.
Definitely the time I was stuck in bed in hospital after surgery, and the constipation I had at the same time.
CONRATS !!! KALLERIA ... :))) Another McGinn girl :) hoorahh !! shes quite the artist . I have to agreee with Dinky . By the way I will be in New hope on tues the 30th for my 6 month post appt . pm me maybe we can have a cup of Java and chat
Not expecting to be as fatigued as I was. My pain levels weren't bad, the hospital/residence stay was made bearable by the group I was with, they were fun.
My packing gets removed on the 30th... Maybe I'll see you in the office :)
Well, not that it was particularly painful but in the interests of providing an answer i found the most painful bit was having the drains removed, the hardest bit was the boredom in the hospital for the week following surgery..
I really could never have imagined how simple or straightforward it all ended up to be.
lol lol :,) , I wont see her until the afternoon so more than likely we wont be bumping into each other but you will have your very first look at your fabulous new cookie ;) lol lol and you will have your first dilation , I remember like it was yesterday :icon_giggle:. it was like she was performing a migic trick, she pulled and pulled and pulled annnnnnnnnnnddd pulled and pulled and then WALLLLLLLAHHHHHHH lol your VAgina MAAM lol lol I wish you the best :),
Ooo, well, you didnt ask but yeah, the scariest or most intimidating thing was dilating!
The whole post op process is weird i think, its like having goal posts and literally keep moving them. ie, cant wait till the bandages come off, to get packing out, having a real pee, to get home, to stop wearing pads, to get down to 2 dilations a day, to get down to one, now trialling 1 per 2 days etc etc.
I dont know if its a coping mechanism, just me or if its because we are so used to steps or hoops that it now seems weird to think its all over and just life again now
Did you bleed a lot when the packing was still in? Last night was pretty bad in that regard, made me feel really, really gross.
Well, i did bleed a lot on day 1 into day 2 following the removal of the main post surgery bandaging. I didnt feel it, but as i didnt stop bleeding i had a pressure bandage reapplied and confined to bed until the following day, i think this was around 5pm day 2, bed all day for day 3 and up and about again day 4.
Day 3 was probably the worst day cause it was so boring and my back ached somewhat but i think it did me good in the end as i had little to no bruising and only had some specks of blood on the dilators once home
I also had my surgery with Dr. McGinn June 2010. The worst part of recovery was definitely the days in the hospital just after. I had a bleeding issue and ended up needing 6 units of blood over several transfusions. Combined with the 3 days of laying flat on my back I felt like I was in hell. Thank Goddess for Dr. McGinn and morphine is all I can say lol
Thinking back on that week, in on Monday and out on Saturday, there was nothing that really comes to mind. The only things that I can think of were only nuisances. Not being able to go to the toilet or having a shower. I think I only had one shower that week. None of the procedures catheter, removal of packing or the initial dilation which was basically wham bam, this is how you do it and now its up to you to do it.
The thing that I wanted most during my stay was to have a couple of my friends there a bit more often. That to me was the most striking thing about my stay in hospital. I know now that some family members wanted to be with me and I remember as far as I can tell I did not want them there, just in case they tried to stop me.
Times have moved on and I have the love of my family around me and my time in hospital will always be one of the greatest moments in my life. Although it was a bit lonely at the time.
Warmest regards
Sarah B
I was too drugged up and delirious during the first few days to fully appreciate the pain but about 4 days post for some reason I had the worst of it for about a day and a half. It was super difficult for me to sit and move around when the stent was in and the donut did nothing to help. It seemed like everyone else was having an easier time pain-wise so I may be just super sensitive. I also kept dropping important things on the floor and couldn't pick them up...so frustrating. Once the stent and catheter were out, it was like I was finally free, and whole, and the rest was much much easier.
6 units!? Omg, that's a ton of blood.
My packing is now out I'm feeling so much better! Dialation number 2 is coming up in the next hour.
