Family of Angie Zapata struggles to cope with a second attack
Three years after Angie Zapata was murdered in Greeley, her family is coping with a second attack. They believe this one was also motivated by hatred and rage sparked by the victim's sexual orientation.

Now, three years after burying Angie, the family must endure what they call the next chapter in a seemingly enduring cycle of hate and ignorance. Once again, a daughter has been attacked, and in the family's view, both attacks were hate crimes committed by men enraged by the daughters' sexual orientation.

On March 5, Stephanie was struck by a car and left for dead, an attack allegedly committed by a man scorned by Stephanie's girlfriend. This time, however, there is no plan by prosecutors to pursue hate-crime charges. Family members understand all too well how difficult it can be to win a conviction in a hate-crime case, but they are baffled by the second attack on a second daughter by a second man.
