Young boys who say they are really little girls, girls who say they want to become men and their families who help cope with their children's extraordinary decisions are the people profiled in this week's edition of "Primetime Nightline."

From a 10-year-old who has felt trapped in the wrong body for years to a "trans-regret," a man who is one of the few people in the world to have changed his gender from a man to a woman and back again, "Primetime Nightline" looks at the issues surrounding transgender.

Tune into "Primetime Nightline's (Extra)Ordinary Family" special, airing on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 10 p.m./9c on ABC

Note; Nightline episode mentioned on Transgroit Blog August 30, 2011.

Frankly, if the best the nay-sayers can come up with is Charles Kane, then the question arises, why is there an apparent discussion at all?

I can only assume that the press types, along with most intelegent people, have no problem with how others live their own lives but remain somewhat fearful of the more vociferous social screamers.

Though, given the obvious social and personal meantal health issues of Mr. Kane, it does seem somewhat questionable that this sad man should be continually wheeled out to be publically humiliated in this way.

Too many cooks? This show had no idea what it wanted to be when it grew up. And giving more hype to Charles Kane is just sad and pathetic.

He doesn't seem to go out of his way to avoid the spotlight...

True Arch.

I won't suggest he shouldn't be heard. But what I know of his history, and his current behaviour, he seems, shall we say, rather excentric.

He is repeatedly being held up as some sort of exemplary case. The reality, for his reported history, suggests he is more an example of the utter failure of the mental health system, rather than the surgeon. Though I will also say, I doubt his story on a number of issues.

I just wonder, given the, at times, preposterus claims about and by this man, if he may be in need of other types of support.

In any case, using him as a poster boy by those that seek, whatever, seems to be a bit risky.

I found this show quite problematic, but it lost ALL credibility for me the moment that Charles Kane showed up. WTF were they thinking?
