Title: X-Factor contestant
Post by: nicks on September 01, 2011, 07:07:48 AM
Hey. I'm gonna rant.

Just watched X-Factor (AUS) and there was a FTM transexual performance. He was outstanding.

I can't help myself, I googled to see peoples reactions. Most were really positive, but there are still those comments that just set me right off...people saying rubbish like "that was a girl??!?" or "I can't believe he used to have a vag!!". And a bunch of them using the term "->-bleeped-<-". I dunno, that term is just so offensive to me. Is it really necessary to call him a ->-bleeped-<- and make other ignorant comments?

It's 2011, why can't people wrap their heads around it? Why do they have to be so immature??

I think I need to try to be more tolerant of untolerant people.  :icon_help:

Oh that is so awesome to see such support and positive feedback. Not only with the panel but with the audience as well. Kudos to him!

Wow ... I can't believe he came out on stage ... Wow   :o

Real nice voice, amazing.  I know the comments can be hateful so it's best not to even read them.

Make up your own mind on the performance.  Change will eventually get here but it's going to take awhile.

Sorry I'm not going to help you with that.  In my opinion we need to be less tolerant of intolerant people.  They should know they are being rude when they're being rude.  The information is out there.  Everyone should know better by now.  They need to be corrected, not petted.

Firstly, I'm really excited to see an FtM on television, and...a real one, not an actor who is cisgendered and paid to portray a trans individual, but a real one OwO And kudos to him for coming out on stage. YES!!! <3

...And also...

As much as it pains me to say it, I'm not surprised about the ->-bleeped-<-ty comments. It's sad and depressing, but not surprising. Even if we're better received than we used to be, we still get a lot of crap for being who we are T____T Perhaps one day, society will be more tolerant.

And I completely agree with you Squirrel, Intolerant people should be aware that they're being rude.

hes so cute...

well I guess X factor isnt the best show talking acceptence,
half of the show is generally to laugh at the losers and then fill it up with drama and a small piece are then the singing (as I see it)

there where a simular thing in my country with a very maculine lesbian girl who where in the show, and she got some comment about "do she wanna be a guy"
kinda thing who made alot of mess.. but she said she where just boyish and nothing special, actually she won so I gratuated her because she is a friend of one of my friends.

now I think one of my ftm friends are going into aditions, to be honest im not so happy about it, but its his life and his desisions,

I thought, for a bit, "Is that the right video? what are they on about?" and then he said "gender transition" and I went, "oh... it is"...

boy looks gooooooood

His voice is pretty good too...

"I had a voice before, but I never felt fully authentic..."

That is exactly how I feel. I had a decent female voice, and I could have tried to make it with that voice, but it didn't feel like mine. Now that I'm transitioning, my voice is a little more iffy, but it's MY voice and I love it.

Damn what a nice voice. Also must admit I'm jealous of his facial hair. Maybe this is our year to take over tv. He's on and so is Chaz.

Gosh I love Aussieland. :D The most amazing part was when he said it, the slight pause, and then all of the audience clapping and cheering. Personally, I hate shows like this, because they're not really about the tallent, they're a popularity contest, but the fact still remains that a lot of people watch it, and for this in particular that is a great thing. Maybe it will help these issues to be better understood by the general public.

Gosh, he was so brave to do that up on stage though, what an awesome guy. I shall have to watch it from now on to see how he goes.

Okay... that was COOL.  ;D He came out on stage, and in front of thousands of people watching on TV (and now the internet)! He did a great job, too! (I wonder if he'll come and read this... that would be awesome. )

I'm glad people are saying I/we shouldn't have to tolerate d**k-head people...I usually don't take anyones rubbish, but some people are turning around and telling me to lighten up now. Wtf? -_-

Paige is actually a facebook friend of mine, he gladly and helpfully answered many questions I had when I first started transitioning...I consider him somewhat of an Idol and I definitely look up to him. He now has a fanpage on facebook :-D

Paige is an acquaintance of mine, and I was anxiously awaiting this to air. Am really glad he's given some exposure to trans issues.

I THOUGHT HE WAS BLOODY GOOD!
Coming out on stage was the best way to stop the rumour mill in it's tracks. I'll certainly checkout his FB page.

->-bleeped-<- has yet to bother me. Of course, I haven't been called a ->-bleeped-<- yet. But it makes me think they'd be calling me a transmission, because that's what a ->-bleeped-<- is to me since I'm a bit into cars and all that. But what really offends me and pisses me off is being called a dyke, because I am NOT attracted to women at all. I'm only attracted to men, and that's the way it is. I'd rather they get it right and call me a ->-bleeped-<-got instead of a dyke.

:D I was on a for/sale and wanted site the other day where someone had listed "I need a ->-bleeped-<-!" as the title and I totally forgot people called transmissions that man. I was so annoyed and then clicked the link and was like ohhhh...... One of my stupider moments.

That is awesome of the guy, totally cool!

I feel like asking , auto, manual or flappy paddle?  when I hear "->-bleeped-<- too", also transformer or transistor, from my time as a radio techo.

I missed the last show, how did he go?  I think they should just announce he has won it, and be done with it, he is that good.

Karen.

Is it wrong when I saw the title I thought of some sort of Fear Factor X-files combo?

He hasn't gotten nearly as much backlash as Chaz has gotten. I guess that's a good thing.. But I hate intolerant people. It seems lately there's been a lot of transphobia for some reason. Even my school peers are transphobic, but then again they're very intolerant.

...He sang okay. Good actually, though it's not my type of style.

He was freaking awesome up there in all respects! He could have 100% just been stealth but I agree it was brave of him to just come out on stage, it's funny though I go through the exact kind of pause before I have to tell people the situation. It's like that moment where you have to force the words out of your mouth? His voice was excellent, something I'd actually enjoy as opposed to all the lame male singers in the UK one at least, and all the ladies sound the same here too. Never watched more than a couple episodes in a series- like I literally knew a girl in it (Stacey Solomon) but didn't know she was IN it until one of the last episodes. I can't even remember if she won or not xD

I'd follow this though, youtube it up I guess. WTG australia

insensitive and intolerant people suck i think the word ->-bleeped-<- is offensive but i think trans guys or girls can call each other ->-bleeped-<-s. like a lot of other words. but i really liked his audition.

I'm a little hypocritical about the word ->-bleeped-<-. I don't think it's offensive if I say it about myself, or if another transgendered person says it. I'm borderline on friends using it (they don't mean it as an insult, but it can sometimes come across as ignorant), but when people I don't know/don't know well say it, I feel offended, because in most cases it's used as an insult (if the person doesn't mean to be insulting, they'd probably be using another word).
