Title: smoking on T
Post by: Wil Najera on September 08, 2011, 01:31:42 AM
is it really that bad? I really dont want to quit. Ive seen some guys on T still smoking. I know nicotine/tobacco lowers T levels... But does it lower them enough to prevent voice change/facial hair growth/muscle build?

I smoked when I started T and I smoked for the first 18ish months - I still had my voice drops, hair, libido, muscle/strength changes so don't fret. The problem I see is T increases your chances for cardiovascular disease, cholesterol etc (to a normal male level but an increase from our previous 'female' risk) as does smoking. Smoking also impedes/lowers oxygen carrying capacticy in the blood and this causes problems for circulation especially after surgery. Smoking can also interfere with anaesthetics.

I have been smoke free for the past 3-4 months. But I will admit to the odd ->-bleeped-<- when out on the sauce but all in all from a pack a day I'm pretty happy and it's only getting better and easier. I didn't really want to quit smoking - I did it for the health benefits and in the lead up to surgery. The surgeon the other day actually again pointed out how important it is to quit before surgery.

Quit or don't mate, you're a big boy it's up to you, but rest assured you'll still get the changes.

My uncle smoked when he was young till he was old. It didn't seem to have stopped his puberty any.  However he died of lung cancer a few months ago. I seriously doubt that it will mess with your levels enough to matter.

Hi Guys,

Sorry for a girl to but in (sorry about that as well)

As Jay said it is your choice, but try and stop before surgery. Your recovery from top or/and bottom surgery will be a lot better and a lot quicker. I know surgeons who will not perform elective surgery on people who smoke particularly for invasive surgery. For guys that certainly includes top and bottom. For girls it definitely covers penile inversion and vag construct. You will struggle to find any one willing to do throat surgery as an elective if you smoke. Well in first world countries anyway.

Also have a think about why you smoke? Do you do it because you think it makes you look manly? It doesn't.  I can never date a guy that smokes, because I cannot kiss him. I can put up with the smell but once we start kissing pass me the bucket.

Sorry for intruding.
Hugs
Cindy
