Title: Trans* Music Thread
Post by: lauren3 on September 10, 2011, 06:34:56 AM
Basically I thought it would be interesting to make a thread the celebrate the music made my transsexuals/trans* people or songs referring to the trans* community (in a positive way of course).

Here's a beat by Mr Oizo entitled 'Transsexual'
Mr.Oizo - Transexual (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsXkdxvzsZo#)

I've also found music by Wendy Carlos (trans-female) who did the composition and movie scores for films such as The Shining, Clockwork Orange (two of my favourite films) amongst others. Here is an example of some of her work.

The Funeral of Queen Mary (Theme to Clockwork Orange)

Rocky Mountains (From the Shining)
The Shining - Rocky Mountains (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYrIkJNsNyM#)

Just two beautiful pieces. Let's celebrate our community through music :)

Does anyone else have any particular artists/songs they like?

There was a English industrial metal band called "Squid" who did a song called "Bride without a (the last word is a tad rude).

I always found it a very powerful song and would often listen to it when I was feeling down as the lyrics were very personal to the singer and made me feel less alone with my problems.

I'm not sure if I can link yet as I'm quite new here, but if the link doesn't work, I'm really fond of the song "The Orchids" by Psychic TV.  Genesis P-Orridge's music can be quite grating if you're not ready for it, but The Orchids is a really nice song that I think most can appreciate.  If you're curious about more of P-Orridge's music, check out Throbbing Gristle.  Be warned, not for the faint of heart.  I think that Throbbing Gristle were one of the earliest Industrial groups.

Not a trans musician, but I'm really enjoying Crystal Castles new album.

Namoli Brennet is a trans musician. I'm really jealous of her voice.

Most people didn't get this song at the time but it's about her gender and sexuality. "i maschi innamorati come me, i maschi innamorati come te" (males in love like me, males in love like you)..
