Title: Red skin after laser
Post by: Bird on September 11, 2011, 09:15:12 PM
I'm nearly done clearing my upper lip but now the skin there is a bit red, so I have a shadow not out of hair but because of the skin color. She says it is fine, they are not white spots and should go away with time, but I am still worried. It bothers me immensely because it is the only thing keeping me from passing without makeup.

Has this happened with anyone?

I had only a total of six full face sessions, and  yes, it's normal.  Most times, just the day of the treatment I was red, but on my last session, I stayed red for like three days :(   Your eyes are beautiful, btw. When did you get zapped last?

I believe it was somewhere around august the 23rd. The marks are not just after session. My skin gets horrible after session and my face gets huge, but it heals in 4 days and after 6 days the edema is gone.

Most of the red skin has healed already, but these are still here :(

I see...how many sessions have you had? Your complexion is very similar to mine, I'm less blushed though. Maybe they used a more powerful setting? Did it hurt more than normal? Get much sun? Also do you put anything on your skin after session? One more thing...is it sensitive, or just red? Sorry for the barrage of questions, I just wanna help you try to figure this out.

I use foundation that has FPS 15 everyday to protect my skin, until the skin stops being sensitive I also use sun protector FPS 30 below the foundation. I have had 7 sessions on my upper lip, one stand alone and 6 with my whole face. They are not sensitive right now, all the soreness is gone.

My upper and lower lip always hurt like hell when I have laser. They usually lower the setting for them.

Well, I'm at a loss... here I am, trying to give you laser advice, when you have much more experience with it than me. I hope you figure it out! :)

Hey thanks anyway! At least we got to chat a bit *giggles*

IMO I'm going to talk with my doctor this week asap and if she says it's nothing, I will also seek a second opinion.

This is TOOOOTALLY normal!

Refer to this thread (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,97634.msg716404.html#msg716404), to see my results. Typically - especially in early laser treatments - you'll get very red; for me the redness lasted as long as 3 days. It does go away though. After my fifth treatment, the redness disappeared in about an hour.

Edit: OMG I totally forgot to add the link. sorryyyyy!!!!!

what I heard is that your face will be quite red for a few days and that shaving will hurt more during this time, and I was told I would cry during the treatment , I hope to try to start Professional LHR very soon, the thing holding me back has been money.

Ok fine!

I will try to stop freaking out about it! I'm worried because it has been like what, 16 days since I last got zapped, but I'm gonna try and be zen.

I forgot to add the link I said I'd add. But yeah, check out this link for my laser progression. Being red is totally normal.

Thank you for the link Sam, I really appreciate all the help you have been giving me, You are like a  sister figure to me :)

The skin is getting better but slowly, so I was just freaking out before.

Be glad you're not having electrolysis! If you want to talk about red and lumpy... :o - plus I have to let the stubble grow out for a couple of days before the session, which is humiliating somehow. If there was a way to induce facial alopecia, I'd go for it :).

Lol Padma

Well what I can say

ANY woman would freak out if she had facial hair. I admit the point I'm at right now is a huge improvement of how it was before and ya, I'm glad I didn't need electrolysis.

Yes. The best times I've had laser is when I come out like a beatroot and it's stayed like that for over a week! This was my usual laser clinic. when I've laser elsewhere and it appears there's no redness or anything it usually means the laser has been unsucessful and the levels are set too low. The redness and skin problems usually go away after about two weeks and then your skin looks a lot clearer and hair free.
