Title: Height Issues
Post by: 420NEKO on September 16, 2011, 02:43:00 AM
I used to think I was at least 5'6", but recently discovered that I'm 5'4"...  :-\ It kinda sucks, but I have met men shorter than me so I guess it's not all that bad... However it's still been bothering me since I found out...

I was wondering, how tall are you guys? For those of you who are short, how do you deal with it? Sorry if this has already been discussed. ^_^;

I deal with it by the fact that gender is a thing you can 'easily' change. Height isn't.

I'm 5'3"ish, I used to be small as a girl, I'm even smaller as a guy. Especially here in the Netherlands, people are bloody tall here!

I'm about 5'3" or at least I was last time I checked which was a while ago. But I've never had a problem with height. My best friend as little kid, who was a boy, was really short. And I've always kinda wanted to be short, even though I'm not. But that's because my dad is really tall and somehow I've luckily seem to have gotten some of that DNA. But who knows, maybe I'm done growing and won't get much taller? Then I'll definitely be considered short when I'm older.

just got measured at the doc, I'm 5' 6.5" (with vans on thats a really short shoe)

I deal with it by embracing it, and joking about it.. like at work when a coworker was trying to reach something and I said "I really would lend you a hand but I'm to short to reach it either"(har har im a short guy who admits it)

Using humor sounds like a great way to deal with it.  :D

I'm a little worried about being made fun of for it though. I was teased in school so much that I dropped out... But maybe if I make fun of myself before anyone else can, it wont be too big of a deal.  :P

Count your blessings - I'm a 6'3" trans woman (I stood out uncomfortably in a crowd even when I still looked like a man) with multiple scalp scars from banging my head on door frames :(.

Not making light of your height, just empathising from the other direction :-\.

I'm almost 5'8" so it's not a problem for me. I'll never be considered tall for a guy but it's the lower end of average, and no one thinks anything of it.

Side-note: there's a guy in my English class who's about 25 years old and under 5' tall.  :o

@ Padma; I'm sorry to hear that. :( I hadn't thought of how it must be for some trans-women...

But you know, you have to be a tall woman to be a supermodel. I'm sure there are alot of aspiring models that would kill to be your height.   :)

Oh, don't let me hijack this topic :) - I'd just kill for smaller feet! Anyway, it doesn't matter what your height is, if you're hot you're hot :D. Wiry, compact men are very tasty...

It's actually possible that you shrunk a couple inches from poor posture and not stretching . I know when I was working on it I was 5'5 at the end of the day but now I'm 5'4 at the end of the day. I hate being short, it bothers me alot.

im 5'8" or 5'9" im taller then almost all my family on my moms side she is 5'9" (she might have shrunk because im taller then her now) and the second tallest. so im taller then my moms 4 sisters and one of her brothers. my dad is 6'2" everyone on my dads side is taller then me besides his mom and i think im around the hight of one of my uncles. even though im taller then the average genetic females, my hight still bothers me. most of my guy friends are much taller then me and only the short ones are my hight. im happy that im taller then all the girls im friends with besides one.

I'm 5'3" and it bothers me a little because I want to get back into theatre and musical theatre, and in onstage pairings between girls and guys they usually like the guy to be taller than the girl. So it might be harder for me to be cast as a male lead because I won't be taller than the female lead unless she's really short.

Annnnd im even shorter, just under 5ft. WOOO. Although I am young...but looking at my family I doubt i'll get anytaller than 5'2 or 5'3 if im lucky..

Oh well, Gather your confidence and walk outside those doors, i've seen plenty of Cis-guys only 5ft.

I'm 5'5", built like a 6'5" tank of a man, just shorter. I would kind of like to be taller, but I'm mostly fine with it. Most cis men in my area are shorter than me. We are a very short people in West Virginia. If you see a man taller than 5'7", chances are they're not from this area. I have a cis guy friend who's 5'1" and is a tiny little thing. He's totally secure and doesn't think twice about it, and he's well liked and popular. So yeah, confidence is key.

A friend of mine says short guys are cute though...if that makes anyone feel better...that probably won't.. -.-
And someone i know is only like... 4'10, he seemed to had stop growing since his early teens, so y'know, at least there are some Cis-guys and all that who are shorter than us.

And yes, Confidence is the key. xD

Guys aren't too tall here but most are at least 5'4.
There will always be shorter and taller people though so meh.

Here's a good site

When I was living in Texas, though, it seemed like everyone was taller than me, even the girls. I was thinking about moving back there, but now I'm not so sure. xD

Oh God I know! I argued with a Nurse once that I was 5'6 for 15 mins. In the end she remeasured me and I was shocked to see that she was right. I lost an inch since I was last measured at age 19. The only thing I can think of was that my fork lift accident shortened my lower left leg enough to lower me by an inch. As a woman,. I'm happy about the height difference, but how it happened? i'll never quit worrying about that.

As someone who's somewhat of a guy, I'll tentatively post here. I'm 5'10". Average height for a man, pretty freakin' tall for a girl.

I think short guys are awesome, and never that I can remember have I questioned someone's gender based on their height. I see all these threads about height, and I really don't think it matters as much as people seem to think it matters. I sometimes wish I was short, so I could wear clothing that wasn't either specifically designed for tall girls or having a really awkward combination of waists and inseams for a guy (I have a 28-30" waist and 34" inseam). Also, short people take up less space and consume fewer resources than do us larger folks.

It would prob be hard for me  to be confident as such a short man, considering western society expects that all guys be tall, or at least 5'7ish to be average. There's too much emphasis placed on it. I was also beat up when I was in primary school (7/8 yrs old) just because I was a short GIRL. *sigh* its been a  touchy subject with me since, and I don't know how i'd handle it after a transition. :/

I'm 5'2" - 5'3" depending on what shoes I'm wearing. I always see other guys who are just as short as me or close to it when I'm out and about. Not every guy is tall or even "average".

I'm 5'3". It is annoying being short (having to wait in the queue at bars is the worst thing!) but to be honest, as long as I can bulk up a bit when I start T, I'm not too bothered. Short muscular guys look fantastic, in my opinion - just look at some of the Japanese ufc fighters.

My (male) partner and I are the same height, which is somewhere around 5'6", 5'7" I think. I don't consider us short. For a long time I thought I was fairly short. Then I finally got glasses and suddenly, the ground was farther away. I was completely disoriented for a day or so. *laughs*

I think I'm about 5'6" or 5'7", though I haven't really checked in a long time. Some days my height bugs me, and some days it doesn't. I know a cisguy in my weight lifting class that's shorter than me, but he's still awesome and treated like an equal by the other dudes, so it helps to see confident guys who don't seem to care about their height.

4'10" and done growing for my life. 19 years old, man.

It can be a bit of a damper, but I wear shoes with thick soles and shoe lifts to help me out.

My friends all tease me for being shorter than my girlfriend, but she doesn't mind. I'd be lying to say if I didn't wish to be taller... but shortness can have it's perks (like kids discounts). My biggest issue with my height is the fact that it's always been a joke that I was a pedophile's dream-- since I look 12 for the most part. \: (youngest I've been guessed to be was 10, that was a bit of a kick to the confidence)

I'm 5'9 1/2" last time I checked....don't forget the half! 5'10" with running or basketball shoes or boots on. Snce grade school through high school I was taller than most even guys. I played basketball so I wore ball shoes a lot which made me look/feel taller. But recently I've  started overly observing others height, I feel like I've shrunk and everyone's gotten taller loll. Needa stop worrying about it. I like cute tiny short girls too so it's okay..well not miniature but yknow 5'3" lol.

I'm fairly thin, so would gaining some muscle make me look taller? I seen some dudes that are muscular and they look short.

I am the girlfriend of a very cute and adorable 5'4" FTM, the funny thing is I am 5'11" closer to 6'.  At first I was a little worried about the height difference and what people would say.  I have always felt a little uncomfortable with my height and I think my boyfriend is the same way.  But we have been together almost two years and people think we are adorable.  I never think about our height difference anymore ( I think he likes it because people tell him it is like he is with a model all the time).  In those few times that people have said something, I usually come back with something kind of snarky, like how perceptive they are for noticing our near 7" height difference.

Basically, what I am trying to say is you are handsome no matter what and whoever you find to be with, probably won't even notice or comment on height.  Take it from someone in a very unconventional relationship, we definitely don't even mention it anymore.  Because once you're in love, its not a big deal.
