Title: From MTF to Androgynous!
Post by: TaoPhoenix on September 20, 2011, 01:11:00 AM
Please tell me if Im using my terminology correctly! Im new to this section. After much thinking time I came to the conclusion that I would like to be Androgynous. I like my male side, I like my feminine side. I would like to appear more feminine, But not get rid of my Male side. It seems this is everything Ive wanted! Now Im new here and probably going to be staying for a while.

Im glad I am here and really happy to finally have something that really feels like I belong and fit in this category. One of my biggest things is fashion. What are some of the current fashion statements in the Androgyn Scene? What do people wear? Educate me on the fashion of Androgyny.

for me it's combat boots and skirts.
Makeup and male-cut shirt.
uhm well, really, once you go andogynous-fashion, pretty much anything is fair game.
I'd be more interested in being educated by Your sense of fashion.

What do you currently wear ?
What is your style like ?
What do you intend to do with your fashion choices?
More importantly, why haven't you posted pics ??

My camera was under the seat of my motorcycle which was stolen Saturday before last so until I can afford another one... Anyway I'm feeling too depressed old and ugly right now to do so even if I still had one! Bad day :icon_cry:

I have really close-cropped hair and wear lots of "men's" clothing for a female-bodied creature, but I strive to be pretty. I keep my eyebrows neatly groomed and wear a little makeup most days. I wear skinny jeans from either side of the store, but I'm rather young (20). I wear lots of button-down shirts. If I'm feeling more fem, I wear it open over a pretty cami. For shoes I go with cute sneakers, again from whichever side of the store.

I think that my "look" is pretty average for many women my age, with the possible exception that I shop on the men's side of the store more than the women's. And that my hair is currently about half an inch long. *shrug*

As far as terminology goes, androgynous refers to appearance, androgyne to gender identity.  Of course the same person may find both apply, or just one, or neither.

I don't really have an androgynous appearance (being bald and looking better with a goatee than no facial fuzz), but I do express my androgyne gender identity outwardly a bit.  I'm biologically male, but sometimes wear womens' button-down shirts, sometimes jewelry, "feminine" colors (I love purple!), mascara and/or toenail polish.  Occasionally Thai fisherman's pants, which are unisex but tend to look more feminine than typical Western clothing... but with cooler weather not so much.

Meh... Always dress the same to be perfectly honest, probably self hatred... Old  jeans, t-shirts, hoodies, and gender neutral over garments. At home similar but always wear sarongs through force of habit and never shoes in the house of course. Outside trainers, Onitsuka Tiger are my favourites. Had long slightly wavy hair all my life except for one mishap with a barber in Africa. I do have a male suit which I wore once to get married in time ago, that was without a tie at least. Felt like a freak in it.

Most people probably think I'm very feminine Gay or Intersex which is kind of messed up. Not the way it should and could have been.

I work at a primary school and so wear a shirt, tie and trousers.

I also wear black Doc Martin boots (I've worn DMs since I was 14). They currently have black laces covered in pink and black stars. The laces are usually something designed to be striking against the black. When the whim takes me I wear the purple DMs with pink laces, but they are getting a little shabby now.

I would never have thought a shirt/tie combo would have been very me, but I am enjoying playing with different colours and fabrics...very proud of a yellow shirt/wide purple tie combo at the moment. You don't have to wear a tie but I worked out early on that if you do, then people tell you you look smart no matter how rumpled everything is. A definite good tip for a lazy soul like me. I've had parents complement me on my style, which is nice.

I tend to go for drinks straight after work in my work gear, then when I get home I love to slob around in girls' pj's, a habit my new housemates have been very graceful about.

Out and about, I tend to wear jeans and a tshirt, but I have a lot of t-shirts I have sewn things to, or painted on or put decals on or whatever. My fave says 'I (heart) books' and has a book with legs running away.

Ill be sure to post some pics soon! I really want to get My Eyebrows done and get a new pair of Pants. I Want some Womens Jeans. I hate "Male" Skinny Jeans. They make my butt look flat :(

Im really looking into looking more feminine. But Im not to sure how I could do that without looking like a straight Up cross-dresser.

Hi Tao!

I'm new too and I also ran with the idea of being MTF for a while but it didn't quite fit.... It's kinda exciting to be myself without having to fit the binary!

I started off wearing bootcut girls jeans from victorias secret, but I find its better to go to op shops because it's not quite as defined gender wise.  This helped when I was a bit shy and a lil timid.  Now it doesn't bother me but I still shop there (I cant support companies who put leather tags on their jeans so 2nd hand is better.) Because I work as a diesel mechanic I think it's great to wear cheap girls designer jeans with my work shirt  :)

Top wise I used to buy fairly slim but long t-shirts.  I think it looks feminine without going overboard.  Now my chest is growing a lil I tend to wear button up shirts, guys or girls, sometimes with a slim funky tie, or a sort of girls dinner jacket that cuts in a bit.  I started painting my nails black, just a few of them b/c I think all black is a lil too much, but today I'm putting purple over the black and maybe some of my metalic sparkly eye shadow sprinkled over the top. hehe. I love getting out of the bed on different sides.  On my eyes I usually wear eyeliner on the outer 2/3 of the lower rim, mascara with a primer, a light coloured illuminiser as a shadow and if I'm feeling funky  a sparkly purple on the other 1/3. Clear shiny lip gloss is also a go.

I sometimes wonder if my tastes are becoming more feminine or if I just am becoming a lil more confident and letting my mind wonder?

You might start off wearing what you think you can get away with - try buying some girls ' boyfriend ' style jeans or a girls button up business shirt that looks boyish to start off with?  Aslong as you appear confident and you own your style you can usually get away with it. Pick your crowds to start off with also, a few early successes help a lot.  I fear if I am unsure or timid, the wrong crowd may eat me alive...

Most of all have fun and explore! what are your usual tastes?
