Hey all, a couple quick questions. :) Let mr know if this is in the wrong section and I'll try to figure out how to move it.
I was born female, but I've been questioning my gender identity recently.
Question #1: Would you recommend that anyone who honestly thinks that they might be ftm should see a gender therapist?
Question #2: Should this person wait a couple months before seeing a therapist to experiment with crossdressing? I'll be honest, I haven't been questioning for that long. But...(I'm not going to go through the details of my past, don't worry.)..the idea of being a guy makes me so happy. It makes me feel at peace, like I've finally figured out why my life has seen so messed up for the past couple of years. I hardly it as a coincidence that all my problems started when I stopped/couldn't hang out with guys anymore. (For the purpose of not rambling I won't go there.)
So yeah. Let me know what you guys think me seeing a therapist. If you need more details just let me know.
Peter
1: Yes, it could help you sort out how you feel about it.
2: No, you don't have to set rules like that for what you do before seeing a therapist.
Hope I helped. ^.^
Alright, thanks. :) you actually did sort of help. I tend to overthink things a bit too much, so I think I'll wait a couple weeks, gauge if I still feel this way and want to see a therapist, and in the meantime experiment a bit.
Thanks again,
Peter
I'd say go with whatever makes you comfortable. There's no time frame, and everyone does things a little differently. If you'd feel better talking to someone before making any changes to how you present yourself then you're welcome to wait. Otherwise there's nothing wrong with seeing how you feel with various small steps towards appearing more male. It is probably best to see a gender therapist at some point if you have questions or uncertainties about transitioning.
I guess my short answer is to follow what makes you happy. Sorry I don't have more concrete advice.
Good luck finding yourself :)
most importantly, move at your own pace, follow the beat of your own drum, not someone elses.
therapy is good for anyone regardless of who they are, i have been in therapy for over a year and have loved every bit!!
therapy can do amazing things for you!! it can really help you sort out your emotions and see through the cloudy mess that our minds can become. you will learn alot about yourself!
I have a gender therapist, and he "got" me right away, on two fronts. He understood the trans thing without any coaching, but we also connected personally. I think it's a match made in heaven.
If you have access to a gender therapist, great. See if that works for you. But some people are happier with a non-gender therapist (that sounds funny) that they can really connect to on a personal/emotional level. Screen the therapist on the phone if you can, to get a sense of him or her. Switch to another therapist if you don't think the first one is right for you.
Wear what you're comfortable with when you're comfortable with it. If you're FTM, you won't have to worry that people will level judgments like "man in a dress."
