Title: Trans candidate makes history in the Ontario Provincial Election
Post by: Talia on September 28, 2011, 07:27:19 PM
XTra has an article today about the first transgender candidate ever for a provincial legislature in Canada:

It's a good step, unfortunately the odds of wining when you're not part of the big three parties here is negligible.

"We have a situation where the government is actually forcing trans people to mutilate their bodies."

Yay, divisive bull->-bleeped-<-.

"Breast augmentation and removal is still not covered by OHIP."

Breast removal is covered in Ontario. She doesn't even know what she is talking about and is spreading more disinformation in the media. And shame on Xtra! for not even bothering to check that assertion.

And the hilarious part is she is running for the Libertarians who have the total dismantling of the public system in their party platform, invalidating all of her claims of fighting for coverage.

Thank goodness she has no chance of winning.

Agreed, @Sara7.

I generally find XTra leaning towards the sensationalist views, I don't even bother to pick up the Ottawa edition. It's also a political campaign and people do tend to spout a lot of rhetoric.

I'm a bit jaded and tend to tune it out as part of the background noise, probably not a good thing.

Oh, I know, that irony wasn't lost on me, either, but if you look at the last tiny little bit her other issues do take a libertarian bent, which may or may not be there to keep the party happy.
