So today marks exactly one year since I started HRT. I didn't know where life was going to take me back on October 6, 2010 or what I would end up looking like, but I think things have worked out pretty well so far. Thank you to all of you who have followed me from my early struggles to today. I posted some pics (including a shot of me taking my first pill) in the before/after thread here:

Just think, the last year, everything that built up to that, and now the next four months, is all just the beginning. You are in the Beta phase, still, and about to go live in 4 months. And even in the infancy of become your true self, you've inspired so many. I know I wouldn't be here, one and half months on HRT, without you, or people like you. Thank you for sharing all of this with us.
I am sooooooo happy for your Melody I've been watching you from the start and I am so happy for you and the courage you had to go full time. I celebrated my 1 year Sept. 30 and I am NOT full time but I'm def getting stares. LOL
Why don't you give us a little run down on how your year has been (condensed version). I'm sure the rest of us girls would love to hear it as well.
MANY MANY HUGS TO Y OU!
Stephanie!

I've been on them for two years. What an emotional roller coaster.
But it was totally worth it and I love what they did to my body.
You survived the first year...congrats!

Oh boy, so many things. It would be much too long even in condensed form. My vlogs are probably the best way to get a little taste of things. The only things not on there are my recent sex marker change on my DL and the fact that I now have a girlfriend.
I'll second what Mahsa said about it being an emotional roller coaster. Whew...
Congrats on your first year! Here's to another one! :)
You look gorgeous Melody! I still got a little more than a month before I give my 1 year HRT vs. Herbals report. My doctor says that I am well ahead of most of his TG patients on the breast development but nothing like yours! I am quite satisfied on my progress anyway. My HRT has gotten me OFF of the emotional rollercoaster I was on most of my life. This past 8 months out of the 10 has been a lot smoother for me then at any time than I can remember. I also have the benefit of family support. Cousins, aunts, remaining uncle, nephews, nieces and all of my siblings, including the half ones have given me positive emails on this. My new sister-in-law gave her support and told me that she does volunteer for her local LGBT chapter!

O M Gosh Melody!!
What an amazing journey in such a short time. From the 'grub' to the emerging butterfly, you have excelled. And I don't for one minute believe the 39 bit. You are WAY under that in looks. You would be straining the friendship if you said more than 30.
Big huggs and congratulations on your fabulous achievement. You are a fabulous woman. Celebrate
Be safe, well and happy.
Lotsa luv
Catherine
yay!!!
Congratulations!

Thanks hon, that is very flattering. I've worked hard over the last year and was blessed with good genetics to make the transition it seems. Found out I'm a 38D at Victoria's Secret. I did start out with more than an A cup though if you look at my first boy pic.
I work with a bunch of early 20-somethings and they are usually very shocked to hear my age. I am 40 now actually. About 4 months away from 41. If all goes as planned, I will have my SRS on Feb. 7 and be released from hospital on my birthday on Feb. 10. Can't wait.
Hi Melody,
I really soooo pleased to hear the good news about your hard work. Certainly has paid off, complete with interest.
So it's REALLY true - life starts at 40 - Woo - who. Can't help being excited for you. Keep going, you're awesome. Will certainly be thinking of you in Feb. Hope you a great team to take to hospital with you.
Be safe, well and happy
Lotsa luv

Congrats. I am so happy to hear this as I am starting at 34. I also would like to say, I love reading your posts/updates. They are encouraging.

Glad you like reading my posts. All I can say is that when I started I really worried that I would never pass given my starting point and my age. However, here I am a year later and I can honestly say that I don't even think about it anymore. I just enjoy my day-to-day life as a woman and know I will be complete very soon. I hope you can find encouragement in that.

I've been on HRT for just over 10 years now and it's hardly made any difference. For me HRT has been like a 10 year placibo! very disappointing and heartbreaking. I am envious of the before and after examples where other people seem to have got more benefit from HRT than I have.
Hi NB,
I'm so sorry to hear HRT has not worked as effectively as you would have liked. Your avatar presents a really good picture of you. I don't have any problems discerning the woman in you, from it. Have you spoken with your doc. on variations and alternatives/additions to your programme? I guess too, in a lots of ways, our outcomes are largely determined by genetics. How does the rest of your family look? What specific areas do you think need addressing? Love to hear how you are coping. Be safe, well and happy.
Lotsa luv

Hi Catherine, over the last 10 years I've tried many different combinations of HRT and anti androgens, but so far they haven't worked. I've probably tried at least 15 or 16 different types of HRT. I agree with you it may be genetics as to why HRT doesn't work with me. When I first started transition I thought HRT would work well for me as my mother was quite endomophic and she had fat in the right places.
I remember my friends mother suggesting I should try HRT when I had already been on HRT for about four years, so in her eyes it looked like I'd never been on HRT. I don't have any fat re-distribution, so with my top off I look like a slightly over weight guy and my bottom half has no shape or any physical changes and my upper body is too big compared with my lower body. The physical dimensions were better and more balanced before I started HRT and the HRT seems to have the opposite effect to what I was trying to achieve.
I have an very experienced well known endocrinologist in the U.K but he isn't very encouraging and he knows I've tried so many types of medication he doesn't think I'm going to achieve my goal regarding gaining female fat distribution. I have very little breast growth, a male type fat belly, very skinny and boney lower legs and no hip development. I am in tears because after 10 years it hasn't worked and I find it hard to get through everyday.
You might want to bring this topic into your own thread, but perhaps you should try other body modification methods such as tight-lacing and implants to give yourself more female typical curves.

I think you mean body modification? I'm not sure what you mean about tight lacing though? are you suggesting corsets and stuff? and butt or hip implants etc don't usually work. This topic is really about HRT or in my case HRT not working for whatever reason. The receptors in my body seem to work against HRT and that is really what I'm trying to address.

Yes sorry, typo. Body modification. If you corset train your body long enough it will retain an hourglass shape. The technique has been posted in other topics. Implants will of course help out on top.
As for HRT, the only thing I might suggest is trying another doctor and see what they might offer. You might also try an orchiectomy if you are not yet post-op.
As for this topic, it is about me having completed a year of HRT on October 6. You might find more help if you created your own topic. Many fewer people will happen across your post in my thread.
Maia,
Congratulation.
You look great Maia and I wish you the best on your up coming surgery.
I have watched your progress and all the struggles that you have shared with us.
You've come along way baby and it such a short time.
I think you may have broken a record in transitioning.
Hugs,
Jillieann

Happy E-Day! XD May the next year be filled with all sorts of exciting discoveries and changes!
Thank you ladies. I don't think I broke a record though. I seem to remember Jerica did it in something like 14 months? In any case, it has been quite the rocket ship ride.

Well I've completed exactely 10 years of being on HRT so I have become a little cynical about it these days. It does seem to work for some people and not for others regardless of age. This may be due to genetics and a whole heap of other factors. I could see another endocrinologist but they will probably say the same thing 'it's not working', 'you've tried just about everything'. But I don't want to put a downer on your achievement of a year on HRT so congrats from me too.

It won't change bone structure drastically or general body size. Have you gotten softening from it? I mean you look fine in your pic.

I am fully aware of the limitations of HRT and after 10 years of HRT experience I haven't got much softening from it. I look the same as I did before I started. I have got very little breast growth, no softening of the face and no hips, and no visible female fat re-distribution taking HRT, so I was wrong about what it would do for me in that respect.
Mahsa you look like a very attractive female, your eyes look wide and very different to the way I look. My face looks hard and my eyes are less noticeable.
