That special feminine time..
As I am pre-T, the most I've gone without a period has been around 3 months; and that was simply because I was keeping myself stressed.
Menstruating is the bane of my existence. It's messy, gross, dirty, painful, wet.. I hate it. I'm not going to have children, so why do I do it?
I use pads but I've been thinking about trying out menstrual cups but.. The thought of it irks me. Putting something inside of me while I'm conscious? It sounds painful and horrific.
i'd go nuts with pads. it's the whole "wet" thing that bothers me most. tampons are fine with me, actually i got a sense of kinda "locking up" some hole that shouldn't be there in the first place.... but, uhm, i'm strange sometimes ;D
I use tampons. When you get the ones with the aplicater you really don't have that much contact with yourself and I can't feel them. I wish i had of forced myself to get over the fact that they go in me sooner. They make the whole experience easier to deal with. Not having to feel the wetness is great. No looking at your blood every time you pee. I can't smell it either. All you have to do is change it every few hours. You can forget your on your period.
I used pads for about four years, I hated the thought of even trying to use a tampon. Ew. Didn't want nothin goin in there. But alas, I tried it about a year ago, and it's amazing. So much better, I can basically forget I'm bleeding. And I use ones with an applicator, so it's not like I have to touch anything down there. Tampons ftw.

Same here when I was pre-T. Plus you can get the small ones that can fit in your pocket without it being obvious.
i hated that wet feeling using pads. so i se tampons it doesnt bother me as i dont really have much sensation around there not sure why. also i have a super heavy flow, but that time of the month doesnt really happen to often. last time it happened it was the 4th day of school ->-bleeped-<-ing sucked as it randomly started like 3rd period.
I just started shark week yesterday in gym class (while running the track. :/). Recently I started using tampax pearl tampons, as opposed to the icky pads I used to use. I swear, having this god forsaken hole bleed is one of the most inconvenient things ever. I want to go on that medication where you only get your period like 4 times a year, but I'm not sure if I'm too young for it or whatever. Sounds pretty nice though. Blarhg.
What a coincidence, I'm currently suffering from that right now :'P. I've done the cups before. They work great for most people, but my "man cave" is unusually small so they tend to slip out and then there's blood freaking everywhere! D: I've done pads too. My flow is also insanely heavy (to the point I'll pass out if I'm not on estrogen based birth control), so they just made things a million times worse since they couldn't possibly hold that much blood ;_;. I've finally caved and started using tampons after an incident where my boyfriend threatened to kill me because he didn't want to walk 3 miles after 8 hours of work to get me some cups xD. Finally, something that clogs that thing up and absorbs all the blood @_@! Now to figure out how to deal with cramps without a high dose of heroin...

You can do the whole no periods thing with any pill. You just take the packs back to back with out stopping to let a period happen. I did that from 14 to 21

I thought you were supposed to reuse thoes cups.
I've tried every kind of hormonal birth control, and it always changes me too much. My personality and sex drive get all out of whack. I was on depo provera for a couple years, and it was better than other things I tried. If you can tolerate it, it might be worth considering. I never had a period while on it.
I plan on switching to a mooncup as soon as I can save up the money. It's cheaper in the long run (30 dollars once vs 4 dollars a month), better for the environment, and not such a giveaway as tampons if someone sees me rummaging through my bag. I've never really worn underwear other than during a phase where I used boxers in middle school, so pads are not something I have much experience with.
I was in a mens restroom today, and had already torn open a tampon wrapper when I had the thought "wait a minute. oh ->-bleeped-<-. who uses tampons in a mens room?" So then I was soothed by the thought that well I do. Yup. Some guys use tampons. Nothing to see here, move along.
Omg lol shark week. I just caught that. I shall start calling it that. Thank you.
I have some sort of undiagnosed physiological issues that have caused me to not have periods for the past 2 1/2 years, so I've been forced onto birth control/hormone pills at various times to try and start it (I hope that never happens to any of you, because if something comes out, it's not blood, just a brown sludge :embarrassed: which to me is much worse).
In any case, back when I had to deal with shark week, I primarily used pads because that's what my mother uses, so she apparently decided that nobody related to her would want anything different. It didn't take long for me to figure out that the wet feeling combined with being able to smell the unholy vaginal spewing made me feel much more depressed and jumpy than usual. So, I managed to get some tampons.
My tactic was to use a pad and a tampon at the same time while also stuffing my undies with toilet paper. That way, any leakages would be small and easily soaked up without me feeling or smelling it, thus allowing me to be a terrible person and leave the tampon in for at least a full day, which sounds gross, but I really didn't want to mess with that part of my body.
Edit: good grief how did my post get so long? Sorry for rambling. -.-

Are there any risks involved with doing that? Because it sounds pretty ideal to me. :3
I had never known about mooncups until now. Whoa, seems like an awesome alternative to having to carry around tampons or pads or whatever.
Don't have periods ....lol well obviously I do.. Like once a year, so when I do have one I use pads. It's nasty, but I can't handle tampons.
Growing up I always used disposable pads. Disgusting and smelly, and I always managed to bleed through my pants no matter what kind of disposable pad I used, ugh. It was so mortifying and embarressing. I never wanted to use tampons because of the fear of TSS (because knowing myself, I'd leave it in there for too long, and I bleed a lot). Now I use reuseable menstrual cups and cloth pads, they made dealing with that time of the month SUCH a relief! Reuseable cups have been a Godsend for me. I can leave it in there for 12-24 hours, depending on whether or not it's a heavy day, and it hasn't leaked once. It's like I don't have a period anymore! I like to use cloth pads as a "just in case" emergency or on really light days. They're so comfortable and soft just like wearing underwear. Menstrual cups probably aren't for everyone (I know of both transmen and cisgendered women who are appalled by the idea of touching that area during that time of the month), but if you can get past touching yourself intimately down there, reuseable menstrual cups are a life saver. Plus no more going down the feminine hygiene aisle at the grocery store! YES!!! ;D
Quote from: Sharky on October 08, 2011, 09:24:11 PMI thought you were supposed to reuse thoes cups.
I didn't use the reusable ones, I used Instead Softcups (http://www.softcup.com/) because they're smaller and contain no latex, which I'm allergic to. These are disposable and don't prevent sex in a normal person. They're still too big for me though, so it was pointless XP.
Please forgive my intrusion into this rather sensitive thread.
I dont know why this thread caught my eye but I can really understand how much it sucks. You guys have it pretty it hard too and sometimes while us girls are complaining about passing, our looks, etc. It can be too easy to forget that for you it's not just taking T have top surgery and that's it. You've got all the joys of having this hole in your body and all the exams that come with it. I had a friend who started a support group I went to a while back that told me he still had to get his exams, etc. *hugs*
on a lighter note, This thread also conjured up some interesting images. not on tampon usage but a bunch of guys hanging out somewhere and having this discussion that you'd never expect to see. It could really screw with a cis-gendered person's mind. I have a warped imagination so please dont take my comment as offensive.
I use tampons. I have about a moderate to heavy flow, depending on the month and tampons are the only things that I can stand. It's so much easier when I don't have to have all that blood just...sitting there on me. It freaks me out and I don't like feeling squishy--like I have a wet diaper on. Which is what it feels like to me.
Plus tampons are easier to carry around in my pocket when I don't have a backpack.
I used tampons ... until recently when my doctor gave me depo --- and now I have no periods! YES!!!! It's a form of birth control and it's one shot every six months --- my doctor gives it to all the transmen until T takes hold, while they go through counseling to get the letter - or folks like me that have too many medical crap that needs to be taken care of first.
Since I'm on T, I don't have to worry about this anymore.
But I used to use pads. Couldn't stand the idea of tampons and putting something inside of me. Eugh. I tried them once, I lasted five minutes and took it out.

To the best of my knowledge its the same risks that are there when you take it the regular way. However when I was on it I often felt weak, tired, and always had headaches. I actually think I gained muscle when I stopped taking it and got an increase in body hair. I had high T levels before so I'm assuming they are high now.

After you said that you could still have sex with it I had to Google it to see how it worked. It's definitely not something I could try. You have to get way to involved with your junk. I know yours didn't fit right, but they seem like they would be hard to fish out. Are they?

Cool, maybe next time I go to the doctor I'll look into that. Sounds like a good way to avoid blood spewing from the crevasse of doom.
I'm haven't had a period for over a year now thanks to T but for years I used pads, the idea of putting something up that hole freaked me out but when I was about 16 I think, I decided to try using a tampon and after that I regretted the years I used pads, although I disliked putting the tampon in, once it was there I could easily forget about it whereas pads easily reminded me of what was going on down there, the wet feeling, everytime you went to the loo etc.
Keaira you made me laugh. :D If you can step back from the relative horror of it, yes it is pretty weird and funny for a bunch of guys to have this conversation. And it's why I use this site. Here I can recognize the absurdity without giving ammo to those who might think we're freaks who don't deserve rights.
And regarding the actual topic, I do like the fact that the period reminds me, every goddamned month, that I need to do whatever it takes to get on testosterone. I'm overly prone to complacency.
I never could use tampons. It wasn't that I didn't like the idea of putting stuff inside me (that's never been an issue at all xD ) but because they felt really strange and kind of 'dried me out' more than they should, I just couldn't stand the way it felt when I removed them.
I dislike pads too (kind of want to try the cloth things, but I don't have the funds to buy any right now) but I use pads because it's the only thing I can use right now.

Nope, it was quite easy to get out, but it involves some digging with your fingers @_@. My bottom dysphoria is quite minimal, so that wasn't my issue. It was the constant thought of "This is like picking my nose, but less acceptable in public".

No I definitely feel at home here. To me, the people on here are the everyday normal people. Its a refuge away from the BS, the wrong name, pronouns and confused looks where I can be with people whom I dont have to explain myself and why I'm transitioning. I mean a Cis guy would probably freak out and panic if they woke up with a vagina and here, its just Tuesday. No Biggy. sure you dont like it but you're like "It's there, it's the bane of my existence. Moving on..."
I had this whole mental image of a high school for trans kids at various stages of their transition and a cis-gendered guy or girl transferring to the school who doesn't know about why the school is there Then picture the guy walking into the locker room and into a discussion like this. Or a Cis-gendered girl walking into a discussion among the girls about tucking, or learning to sound more feminine.
For once, we wouldn't be the oddball or outcast.
The thought actually made me happy all day. But even after reading these posts, even with all the mess and maintenance , I'd still trade this man-junk I have for all that hassle. But in the end it's not what's between your legs that makes you a man or a woman, it's your heart and soul. And you boys definitely have a lot of heart. ^_^
Oh ya! I juest remembered what I wanted to post in here in the first place!
For any hiker's out there, Maxi pads can also be worn on the shoulders where your backpack straps lay on your shoulders to add extra padding and absorb any sweat. So there's a good cover for those who use them. Little trick I learned from a soldier. ;)
I just started the mooncup today. It's totally comfortable, doesn't feel much different than a tampon. I've got my fingers crossed that it doesn't leak, don't know for sure yet.
Darth Taco, they do make them in different sizes. I got a larger one because I've had a baby and stuff.
I'm on T and don't have these anymore.
But I used tampons. IMO 4 seconds of discomfort > 7 hours of feeling a pad between my legs. I don't know how a lot of you guys put up with those things.
Plus I was afraid of someone seeing it through my jeans, and tampons seem cleaner/less smelly.
I am okay for the most part, I just use tampons and liners to take care of any leaking. Captain Bloodsnatch gets bored of me pretty quickly, so we only have to hang out for about five days. Since I know our time is now limited with T on the horizon, I am waiting for the day I can have my revenge.
Keaira: It's actually funny, because I had the same thought a few days ago! I was thinking that it would be awesome to go a convention or something and be able to actually talk to other guys about dealing with guy issues, and it would be interesting to not have to worry about whether I pass enough to use the right bathroom without getting my ass kicked. And I totally agree. It is a fun mental image to imagine all us guys standing around in a circle talking about the Captain and his scarlet raids. XD Just like thinking about all the gals talking about voice training, laser treatments or tucking. For some reason I imagine all the boys in the fem products aisle at the grocery store and all the ladies at some swanky cafe.
I'm a tampon kinda guy. They're nice and discreet.
When I was younger I got the contraceptive implant in my arm, I'd heard it could stop periods so I was a bit excited about that.
Turns out it can also give you endless periods. I had mine every day for 11 months. Every single doctor I went to refused to take it out, they just kept saying it was a side effect that would dissapear soon enough. I ended up with really bad anemia from it.
I ended up cutting it out myself. I'm REALLY glad I have a high pain tolerance.
Oh, and while I'm posting:
Completely unrelated but how do I upload an avatar?
I hated pads, they felt like a wet sticky diaper, you could feel blood oozing out when you stood up, and i was always worried they would leak.
so i used a super plus tampon, and then just a thin pad liner. Tampons really aren't that bad, the blood lubes you up so it doesn't hurt to go in, and once you have it in correctly you don't feel it and you don't feel blood oozing out, and you can kinda forget about your period until you need to change tampons.
Haha I dropped it in the toilet. I am a smooth operator. So there's something to watch out for if anybody tries the cup. Keep it out of the toilet. ::)

It really would be awesome. Or a transgender sporting event. Girls Volleyball and the guys playing Football.I don't know, just something everyday that would flip things around that Cisgendered people don't even think about or take for granted that boys do this and girls do that. I mean sure, we're an interesting bunch. but we can lead a normal life if you just get over who was born with or without wedding tackle and let us get on with it.
I have been using tampons since I found out about them and how to put one in; I was 12 I think. So much better than having a pad between your legs minding you that you were bleeding and messy down there. I have hear and read about the cups but don't think I could handle my parts that much to get one in and out; you have to put a finger way up inside to get it out. I think I will stay with tampon until I can start t and have it end for good. Except for the first day or two, I can change in my apartment so no i don't have to handle tampons in the mensroom which can be a challenge sometimes.
I'm still using pads when ever Voldemort (my name for it) is around. I like the sound of tampons at first, the lack of smell, the lack of feeling like your downstairs is rotting away from trenchfoot, and not having to feel something slither out of a hole that shouldn't even exist every now and then, but I know I'd just forget that I had a tampon in - if I even managed to deal with the emotional side of getting one in - and probably end up with TSS or something :P So I'm just stuck with the pads, but I think its every 2-3 months I get it, I've never counted but its definitely not monthly :D
