Title: Angeliq does anyone have any experience with it
Post by: Emily Ray on October 08, 2011, 04:00:36 PM
Since my HRT nurse practioner refused to prescribe prometrium because she is worried about it causing me to become depressed I have been looking for something that has fewer side effects. Angeliq is estradiol and a fourth generation progestin derived from sipronolactone. I have looked up its side effect profile and the FDA's advers event reports and it seems to be way safer than medroxyprogesterone. Does anyone here have any experience with it? It seems to be one of the few combination drugs that is based on 17b estradiol and a progestin. It was designed for HRT not contraception.

If I recall correctly, prometrium is a broken down (micronized) natural progesterone, which has minimal or no side effects at all (the generic is called Utrogestan or Microgest) on the body or one's mood.
The side effects you mentioned are caused by medroxyprogesterone, which is a synthetic hormone. It is contained in Provera.

Hope this helped.

That's what I thought! If I could convince my NP of that it would be helpful. But, I may not have to convince her because I will be seeing a new Dr Nov 1st who has a great deal of experience prescribing hormones for transgender men and women. I have been told that she will even prescribe injections for me.
