Has anyone ever actually gotten this to work?
I've read about like that youtube video with the exercise to help you stretch your vocal chords, and therefor lower your voice. But has anyone actually done that and had it work even a little?
My voice is just really bothering me. It didn't used to because I can't hear my own voice when I talk, but a few too many times I have heard my own voice, and now I'm obsessed with it. And I wish I could get on T and have it lower already, but I got to wait until I move out to get on T.
And I'm just wondering if i have any options I could try in the meantime.
I don't know if I did the same exercise as the one you're referring to, but I've been doing voice exercises on and off for just under 2 weeks. Three days after starting the exercises I went to a con where we had a group hotel, and my girlfriend's dad brought her, we talked for a bit. Apparently later he asked her if I was on testosterone yet, because my voice was lower. All my close friends noticed a difference.
So I'd say it works.
( I did the "Ding Dong King Kong Bing Bong" exercise, and I warm up with the humming one. )
I like to sing, so I selected songs which challenged my lower range and sang them whenever I had some privacy on the theory that it might make it easier to use that part of my range while speaking. I found it difficult to speak down in that range without warming up with a song or two first, though. And in the end, I never got my speaking voice much lower. :-\ Part of it was probably because I'd developed the habit of speaking from up in my head rather than down in my chest, and I tend to fall back on a higher-pitched girly voice when I'm stressed and want to kind of dissappear into the background (which is most of the time).
I found that when I used the voice exercises pre-T, the range I got was comparable to my natural voice after the first time it dropped. Which is to say, not very different, but I guess it'd be noticeable if you paid attention. It's very temporary too, in that if you wanted to keep speaking in that register, you couldn't really stop talking because I felt like then it would just go back to normal. I really doubt there is anything you can do to get that male resonance without your vocal cords actually growing.
I'm interested in this too. I recall hearing many guys discuss "Boom Your Voice" on YouTube, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about whether it is successful or not..

Can you post a clip of your regular voice? How did you lower it like that without T?

OMG, that's amazing stiltsk!
Really, anything you could try to say to explain how you can do that with your voice, please. I have no idea how to achieve that. I just don't know what to do make my voice sound like that. I don't know how to talk in my lower chest.

Yeah man, I'll try.. it's incredibly difficult to explain, but once you find how to do it - it's easy to do on and off when you need to. Let's just throw this out there and say right off, that I know NOTHING about vocals and singing or anything so I have no idea what to call anything, or what to say in regards to certain stuff. I'm just hoping I can go through this with elementary vocab to vocals and you guys just know what I mean lol
The real thing I did was just mess around with my voice for a while until I found it. But, I did this a lot because I do a lot of voice impressions randomly.
When I first started to try to pass on the phone, I tried to push in on my throat because it lowers it abit. It sounded raspier but it was deeper. But I knew that I couldn't do that while walking around, so I gave it up.
I kept trying to find the pitch I needed, and the first thing I did was clear my voice the deepest I could with an "UHM" sound accompanying it. I kept doing it until I found the area of my throat that I needed my voice to come from. I need to force it to come from deeper in my throat than normal, and because when you clear your throat, you need to go deeper to get all the build up mucus(yeah it's nasty. whatever) loose, then I knew it'd work. It clenches your throat(your chest sort of lurches harder outwards than normal when you do it as well)when you clear it and that same area, along with that slight clench of the throat makes your voice deeper. It takes practice, but it works...
I'm not sure if that helps T_T
The exercises I do, for the most part, you have to do for a while, and you have to use a lot of your voice, like, your throat will hurt afterwards.
It does fluctuate, if you don't do it for a while it'll go back. But if you do it regularly about 3 times a day, it makes a difference.
Also, I've noticed it helps a lot with both pitch and inflections if you (best way I can put this) open and relax your throat. If you've ever done sleep methods where you make each part of your body relax completely, it's basically doing that with your throat. It takes a while to get used to doing without thinking about it, but that keeps any semi-female inflections from surfacing.

Hey, this sounds just great! I wouldn't remotely think of a female listening to that!

what exercises do you do?
You say "Ding Dong King Kong Bing Bong" several times (5-10) starting at your natural pitch and slowly lowering it with each time. Stress the 'ng' at the end of 'bong'. Just keep going lower and lower until you can't get it any lower.
After a while you can do the same thing, but looking up so that your neck is stretched. It's a lot harder, but it stresses the muscles more. But it can be really damaging if you do it right away. (just do the first part for about 2 weeks)
Also, as an exercise that's easier to do in public (on a bus, plane, in a car, walking, etc.). Hum lowly and tilt your head slowly up and down. Your pitch will change each time and you'll hear where your lowest range is, focus on that, lowering it, and using that part of your throat when you speak.
