Title: Swimming for upper body bulk?
Post by: Lee on October 09, 2011, 04:01:52 AM
I've heard that swimming is a great upper body workout.  Does it help masculinize the torso at all, or does it not add bulk to the right places?

Swimming`s a great cardio vascular workout, but if you really want to put on  muscle the only thing for it is to hit the weights and start eating!

I used to swim competitively. It made me quite lean and skinny, which served to emphasize my female shape at the time. Wearing a clingy material didn't help that image. In any case, no masculinization and no bulking. That said, if you exercise a ridiculous amount in any way, your testosterone levels will get a bit higher naturally (or so I've heard), so swimming a whole, whole lot might help just because it's good exercise.

I was thinking of taking up swimming as an indoor activity this winter, but it sounds like it might be better to just stick to the weight room and not have to deal with swim suits.  Thanks for the input guys.
