Title: Hysterectomy PLEASE!!
Post by: Monster on October 13, 2011, 10:44:19 AM
I'm wondering if any guys here have had a hysterectomy? If so how painful is it and how long did it take for u to recover? Was it worth it?

The whole ordeal with getting the smear test then putting female hormones into my body to produce cells and the effects that the female hormones cause in my mood swings.. Just can't take it, I'm so angry!

Today I shouted at my staff and even got snotty with my costumers and that is so not me. I just want to lock myself in a dark room away from people because I'll probably just shout at them which will only makes me feel worse..

I dunno if it's cause I had my T injection a couple days early and having the female hormones put in me for a week that I'm just so SCREWED UP.

I know that id only have to do this every 3 years well let's hope they don't call me back in again.. See I've avoided getting tested I'm 29 finally decided to do it, but they messed up the first time so I've had to get it done again and now currently waiting to hear the results.. But this whole ordeal has been horrid! And the effects of the female hormones is the icing on top of this nasty experience.

Any advice wud be great!

That sound terrible to me, having to put female hormones into you when you are on T already.  I hope I can have my hyster soon after I start T.

When you have both E and T in larger amounts they interfer with each other and cause us to have all kinds of strange feelings.  That is why I don't want to take any female hormones for my cramps, which is what one dr wanted me to do.

My mom had a hysto and she said recovery was 2 weeks. She also told me that you need to listen to the doc and follow their orders because that is what she did and had minimal pain.

It really depends on which procedure mate. Lapriscopic hysto - where they make the 4ish small incisions in your belly to cut ligaments etc and then haul it out 'down there' is supposed to have a quicker recovery than if they have to cut an incision across your belly in a similar position to a C section cut for an abdominal hysto. Obviously the latter is a bigger procedure causing more trauma to the area and a longer healing time. This is the info I got from my consult for my hysto - which is happening as soon as I can get the hospital to give me a date that fits in around my work..

I was told lapriscopically I would be looking at 2-4weeks and abdominally I was looking at 6-8weeks - minimums. And as already stated it's hell important to a) listen to the docs and b) listen to your body afterwards for recovery.

Hang in there bro!

No probs mate will definitely update when I have it - most likely wont be able to contain myself lol! The first the consultant I spoke to wanted to do an abdominal hysto - but I was quite up front about wanting it done lapriscopically. So needed to meet with another one after some scans etc. On my second consult they said they could do it no problems.

You're right it will depend on your anatomy and what they find once they're in there - so for me at least they will start out lapriscopically but if it turns out it is too big to be removed "down there" or any other complications, they will need to make the abdominal incision. I really hope it is fine (and think it will be) to be done via the keyhole procedure. I'm having top surgery at the beginning of next year as well and although I have a lot of leave saved up for this exact reason, I really can't afford 6-8weeks to re-couperate but at the same time my job involves some degree of heavy lifting from time to time.. So need to be careful and obey all the doctor's instructions. Hope this helps!

It's really does help actually and would like if u can to update me when u do get it, i am to get my top surgery in July next year so I understand.. But any info on the hystroectomy is great fully needed, I am not sure when or how I will achieve that yet for I am really early stages of wanting it done. Just curious to what made u want it done? Obviously I'm wanting it done so I do not need to have smear test and female hormones pumped into me again.

Too easy mate - yeah I'm having top surgery in April at this stage, unless work create problems!

I was getting some lower abdo pains intermittently - similar to menstrual cramps but a little more sporadic and unpredictable. But really the main reason I want my hysto is because I am unwilling to have a smear test - I never have and I can confidently say I never will. For me the organs there serve no purpose - I'm not going to use them, I never wanted them and they can so easily become diseased as I'm not willing to have the necessary checks. It also allows me to lower my T dose which can help with lowering the risks of cardiovascular disease, blood pressure, cholesterol etc - so it's better for me medically to have the organs removed.

I said all that to the consultant and he agreed, thought it was a sensible idea and was more than happy to help me schedule surgery  ;D

With reasons like that,  can you get insurance to help pay for it?

I've had it brought up to my local GP hopefully he will agree.. See I've paid for everything for myself so far, and I'll be paying for my top surgery so I'm hoping that I'd be able to get this surgery on the NHS or at a discounted rate.. I'm not even sure how much it wud cost, I just do not want to go thru that whole procedure again for the smear test..
