I don't really think I'd consider her trans,
But that was certainly interesting.
And there's actually been accounts of trans people far before the 1700's :3
We've been around forever and we're not going away any time soon!

there are tons of transsuspected people from old times,
even queens and so.
I wont say there story is so called cool, after all they both lived a hard life like all pirates did, and one got in jail and one died.

something interesting is to look at the old egypt or greek way of sexualety and gender norm not to mention the indians.

feel like posting some simular storys

after been wathing the movie, I cant say for sure if this is trans-connected but I somehow feel so,
to make the short jeanne claim to be send by god to fight, she got to be one of the soiders and become one of them,
as women she didnt own them respect so she cut of her hair and wore the same clothes as they when she entered into fight.
after the fights she got into pression where she wore male clothes as well,
she got burned for witchcraft and other sins as "wearing male clothes and haircut" and for the war.

caroline the queen of denmark/norway liked to dress up as male for her paintines as well when she where ridding the horse,
she got married first time since she where 15 and later on, and got kids, however she got trowed out of the royal famely, later on.
it alittle tricky I cant find out the exelent reason why she got trowed out but problems in the kingdom for sure.

I didn't say idolize her. Thats about as close to trans as you get in 1700's I'd say. Since it went past her mom making her dress up. She chose to be in the british navy than a pirate as a man.

She wasn't trans, she just frequently impersonated a man.

I was reading about her before, had a random thought on whether female pirates existed, lol

I think its very hard to say whatever people from old days have been transgendered or not,  transgender people were like gay people hidding and not accepted, in most culture. and even if they where they wouldnt have a word for it so everything to analyse out seam kinda losely.
if you where transgender in most cultures you where to be punished. there are cultures where it where all normal, but many cultures didnt accept these as well as they didnt had a name for it.
while looking at this you must have these thought in the back of the head.

like they also claim HC andersen might have been transgendered/bisexual/gay, but it were for no reason allowed to dress up in women clothes or anything at that time,
all the can analyse out from have been his diary and story telling analyse, + the fact of his personal life and relationships with people.

mostly on these analyse the only thing to analyse out from have been the peoples life and personal relationships, which it rather hard to say what exactly they have been since we dont know much fo there fellings about these..
