Title: Getting a low dose with injections
Post by: bradlee2100 on October 16, 2011, 07:43:27 PM
Is it possible to get injections, but get a very low dose over a longer period of time?  I like the effects of androgel, how you kind of ease into it instead of injecting a larger dose and seeing changes pretty rapidly.
I've heard that androgel is pretty expensive, and injections are much more affordable.
I know with injections you start off on a lower dose every couple weeks and them increase to a high dose every week, but I rather slowly introduce t into my body so that it would be a bit more easier for my family, as well as I, to get used to.

Oh, this is a good idea.  I'm in a similar situation as you, and that's exactly what I would want as well.

I'm just going to sit in here and read people's replies as well :)

For the first 3 months I was on what would be considered a low dose of injectable T. I sing and had some concerns about having my voice change too rapidly. I had changes comparable to guys on higher dosages except my body hair was slow coming in. I had to increase my dose around the end of month 3 because the level of T was not enough for my to stop having a period and it actually made it so irregular I was having it every 2 weeks for 6-8 days.

That isn't totally correct. Usually you start on a lower dose that your doctor recommends then after you have been on that dose for a while your doctor could up it if needed depending on a number of factors. I started on weekly injections and have continued on weekly injections and have only increased my dose once to fix the never ending bleeding issue. It all depends on how you personally react to testosterone how your care is managed and the speed of your changes.

Same here as Ethan pretty much. Only difference is I've been on a low dose since I started T. My doctor isn't requiring me to see her until 1 year since starting T because my bloodwork checked out so I'm not sure if it will be upped during that visit.

if you get testosterone cream its much cheaper then androgel and does the same thing. normally with injections you start on a low dose and you go up to a larger dose. however your T levels will still go up and down unlike with cream or gel.

I wouldn't say this.  Many many guys are started on one dose, lets say for example 1mL every two weeks and stick to that.  Not every doctor feels the need to gradually increase the dose on guys.

My son and I will soon started at  low dosage ... it is increased every three or four months as long as he does his blood work.  Our doctor said it might be close to 2 years before we reach our maintance dose.  She does it so that it mirrors a more natural puberty.  It also helps you adjust to the changes.  It's a philosophy that some doctors use -- I am all for it

A full dose from the beginning imo can be like a "natural puberty"  I didn't take a shot and bam get all my changes at once.  I don't see the necessity of a low dose.  That seems like gatekeeping to me.
