Oh Plague that is not good.

Have you been to a specialist pain clinic? I presume you have been to a Dr etc.

Possibly try a warm soak in a bath to get very relaxed muscles before you go to bed. There is a temptation to take pain killers but don't overdo them the paracetamol based pain killers are very toxic to the liver and the affect is irreversible. So keep strictly to the dosage.

I know this doesn't help right now but hypnotherapy can be useful, and of course knowing the cause of the chronic pain.

Gentle Hugs

Cindy

More information would make it easier for us to weigh in.

I have a bad ankle that keeps me up at night sometimes. It's got metal in it, and I've had a couple surgeries but it isn't probably ever going to be perfect. When it hurts bad, one thing that helps is to find a way to disconnect, to pretend I'm not me. I try to drift away into pure intellect, or to get outside myself and just watch.

Sometimes I try to just be completely still and focus on my breathing. I daydream, and I give myself permission to hurt, to just accept the hurt. It's not going to stop. You have to find a rhythm with it, a way to live with it.

Drugs do sometimes help, too. I think I shouldn't comment on that right now, though. Not without knowing what's wrong and how permanent it is. Medication is a touchy subject, from both a medical and a legal standpoint.

First off, if you are in that much pain get thee to a doctor! If you've been to one and got blown off, find another. There are many many reasons for chronic pain and without any sort of a diagnosis anything is just a crap shoot. There are many medical treatments geared towards treating various types of pains, as well as the good old fashioned drugging you approach (totally NOT recommended as a long term approach but great for breaking any muscle spasms which may be the root cause of the pain)

Sorry to just repeat the advice of others, but you absolutely must get some support.

Not getting enough sleep can cause enormous physical and emotional problems. There is treatment available for pain. Some of Cindy's suggestions are excellent. But medical support is really what you need now.

Take care.

Have you tried aromatherapy? I am a trained aromatherapy massage therapist, I trained to give therapy, to people in pain.

Lavander oil is a natural anti inflammatory I get very swollen joints sometimes and it does help, its an oil you can use neat, you dont need a base oil with it. Contraindications are pretty good but shouldn't use in pregnancy. Clary Sage in small quantities in a base oil is good as well and sandalwood in  a base oil is good for muscle spasms. Ginger oil is very heating. Mixing with Ylang Ylang (which is cheaper than the following) or jasmine would help to make you feel relaxed also, and add maybe grapefruit oil or lemon (keep out of the direct sun 24 hrs), tbh any citrus oil,  helps give an uplifting feeling. So a nice blend would be Lavender with Sandal wood, a drop or two of clary sage, ylang ylang, and a citrus oil, put in a base oil like almond or jojoba maybe.

Lavender oil is great for many things though , even acne! lol I keep it in my first aid box, cos its great for scolds  ;)

What is the source of the pain? Joint, muscles, entrapped nerve?

If it's a nerve you are basically screwed. Not much that can be done without surgery. That is the situation my wife is dealing with now, plus a few other problems from a childhood accident. She lives with her tens, pills, and salves.

Muscle or joint?  There is this stuff called Elephant Balm that helps her. Not sure what brand, there are a few and she can tell the difference. Glucosamine & Chondroitin complex is good also. You can never go wrong with Co Q10. Shark cartilage too.  She used DMSO with some success years ago before things got really bad. By itself is good. It is also great for using with counter irritants like capsacin  (Ben-Gay etc). The DMSO just transports any med right through the skin. When I say an I mean it. Cigarette smokers beware of your nicotine encrusted fingers. Also any topical patches be carefull to stay away from. Beware, the BIG downside of DMSO is you smell like you live on garlic.

Have you had a blood workup for Vit D?  It's a bit of a fad thing for docs now. But, I've seen one woman I know whose pain was so bad she was literally on the verge of suicide after like 8 years of it and the doctor run-around. A blood work-up showed like almost zero Vit D. A month later she was a new woman. I would never have believed it if I didn't see it happen. My wife's was also very very low. She got some improvement from taking D. I don't know how religious she has been taking it, besides not nearly as much as she should be since I do the ordering. My sister's D level was also much like my wife's, almost non-existent. Her pain got better but not a major improvement either. I am reasonable sure she is taking the dose she was told to.

You may also have a food allergy if it is systemic pain, ie all your joints hurt and it isn't RA.

Do your research. There is plenty of info on the net plus a few books. Also plenty of snake oil salesmen.
