He has been sought after by the media to talk about gender reassignment. (http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070302/NEWS/703020357/1004)
Stanton has said for days he wants people to know what it means to be a transsexual, a person who identifies as the opposite sex and may seek to live as a member of that sex.
Wednesday's media attention gave him an opportunity he didn't want to waste.
Stanton wanted to explain why people like him often don't share their secret with others: "One of the complicating aspects is that you really can't tell someone you're a transsexual and expect they're not going to share that."
Something good WILL come from all this. I see a courages woman in the making here. What a blessing she is for good will and educating the public. HERE HERE!
I sent her an email yesterday. I hope that she gets it.

I sent an email to the commissioners letting them know I was appalled with their blatant display of discrimination. Hopefully Ms. Stanton will come out of this undamaged.
It's nice to hear she's using this to educate the public. Maybe the city commissioners will be forced to get their heads out of the sand.

Just found out the email bounced. Gee, I wonder if the mailbox is full. :eusa_think:
I'm just a little concerned though about some of the things she's *supposedly* said. From City polarized over sex change decision (http://www.tbnweekly.com/content_articles/030107_lle-02.txt)
QuoteCity Manager Steve Stanton said it's a compulsion he's fought since he was a child. He found satisfaction in wearing his sister's shoes to the candy store.
QuoteThe most visible city employee said last week he would start wearing dresses April 2...
Good luck convincing everyone it's not "about the clothes" if she's phrasing things in terms of compulsions, wearing dresses, etc.

You kind of have to give her some slack here as she's been thrust into the spotlight and didn't have much time to prepare. But I agree, those quotes won't help her much.
Julie
Oh ya GOTTA love it!!!
From The Annals of Wingnuttery (http://barkbarkwoofwoof.blogspot.com/2007/03/annals-of-wingnuttery.html)
Quote from: Oh, and as for Mr. Sanders' assurance that Jesus would fire Mr. Stanton, a commenter at Shakespeare's Sister nailed the proper response:
If these religionists would just read their Bibles, they would see that God has no problem with making a woman out of a man. In fact, He was the first to do it.

OMG Kate, that quote is awesome. "God was the first to do it." I am so using that one.
Kate, that is awesome! You should start a thread with that as the subject! Imagine the responses!!!
Julie
That is awesome but what about making a man out of a woman?
