Guy's usually don't know how to appreciate androgynous beauty.

Isn't something that doesn't appeal to you, thus boring you enough to be able to hate it?
I hate FTM videos on Youtube, because they bore me. Why is that stupid?

The only thing I don't like is his hairstyle. And it's copied so much Now it's like the mullet for kids. Which is kind of weird if people hate him so much. Hey, maybe some of them are 'closet Beiber's.'

Other than that, I've not heard his songs or singing.

well thats not exacly how I wanted it to sound

math borring me out, so I could say I hate it, but not so I would be "hating on it" and ignore everone who enjoys math,
I feel the same on the topic, people can hate something if they dont like it, but the thing about gonna hate on it so much, and for other who enjoy seam lame for me.

my point is I dont like the hatting either for twilligt or JB but I find it less annoying when they say "I find the book boring thats why I hate it"
then when they say "I hate JB because he look like a girl" I dont know, maybe I feel offended for the "he looks like a girl thats why we should hate him.."?

I guess there must be many people who like his music since he is popular, they just dont wanna tell hehe,
well I heard 1 song who is okay, as in I could listen to it and enjoy it, but the other songs dont really say anything they just okay but nothing special as I would feel I would wanna listen to it.

I should like to preface this that I'm generally rather indifferent upon both subjects.  Certainly more towards dislike than like, but even more toward indifference and ignorance [I'm not too familiar with either] than dislike.

I think people hate him because they are a) tired of hearing about him  and b) tired of hearing his music everywhere.  Whenever someone makes it big there is always a mass group of people who turn to hating them because if you don't understand why they're so great (or if you specifically dislike their music) being inundated constantly with music, merchandise, and gossip can cause one to rebel against it.  I doubt very much that the root of the reason is that he sounds like a girl, and I don't think you should get offended [seemingly almost as though that implies some sort of trans hatred] because they think he sounds pre-pubescent [or "like a girl".]  Above anything else you should be happy for the hoards of people who are obsessing over a boy who looks and sounds like a girl.  People also don't like when people [especially young people] they don't see any merit in are so successful for seemingly no reason.  You just kinda want to shout out to all their fans and ask them what the hell is wrong with them.  Same thing has happened to many-a-popstar.

As for twilight, its the same sort of thing....  Why is this awful book getting so much attention?  From what I've heard its not a bad story, but my friends who read it all said it would have been a lot better if it was better written [my one friend said she wanted to take a red pen to it and fix all her errors.]  I've never read it, but nothing about it sounds like my cup of tea.  Its also rather hyper christian and "save yourself until marriage" type bull->-bleeped-<-.  So a lot of people can hate it for that.

A lot of it, also, is more of a hatred of the herds of mindless fans who are just the sort of people the "haters" would hate in the first place [sans beiber/twilight obsession] rather than the actual subject of their obsession [thats generally only a mild dislike/indifferenece in my experience.]

I think most people who say they hate JB or Twilight don't really hate them, they just hate to be left out of The Crowd. It's a group thing - The Crowd has decided to hate JB/Twilight (just as South Park provoked The Crowd into hating redheads). There's always going to be some damn thing, and people are always going to be more afraid of being rejected by The Crowd than standing up for their own beliefs and principles.

Personally, I think JB looks cute and androgynous, and might be attractive in around 10 years when he becomes an adult. His songs are just mainstream pap, no better or worse than any of the other mainstream pap. (I'm not using "mainstream" here in a hipster way, I just mean crowd-pleasing bland pop - he's just one of many.)

Padma, the voice of reason... I always dig your posts.

I don't pay much attention to anybody who says they hate Justin Bieber. If you take him that seriously and you're over the age of eighteen, you've got some growing up to do. His target audience is young girls... It's kind of sad that full-grown adults are bashing him just because it's the cool thing to do. It's like criticizing Barney and Friends for not being intellectual enough. It's much easier and less stressful to just tune out the things that you don't like and don't pertain to your interests. I don't listen to JB's music, don't go out of my way to look him up in the news, and I haven't heard about him in over a year or two. In fact, the only time I ever hear his name mentioned is because of the people who just have to keep bringing up how much they hate him and how his music sucks. Every time someone does that they make his name live on a bit longer. Anyway, the reasons they give for hating him are so asinine, I would suggest you just let it go, because they prove just by opening their mouth that they're not worth the effort. It says way more about them than it does about anyone else.

It sounds like you wanted to sound that way.. Yeah, I'd rather watch paint dry than do math. Why would someone want to hate someone just for what they enjoy or don't? Yeah, I understand that, but in reality, who's saying this? Some 12 year old confused boy, whose getting a stiffy for him? Probably.

I'm a Twihard, but personally I am just not into that type of music. I listen to country, mainly. -avoids evil looks from those in The Crowd- However, if someone is so wrapped up in their membership in The Crowd, why should we even bother giving them the time of day?

Exactly - fanaticism is always suspect, whether it's loving something or hating it. Just liking, disliking, or being indifferent is very different territory from that kind of intense over-obsession.

Yes, for me the question under all this is also: why is "Justin Bieber looks like a girl" any kind of issue in the first place? So bloody what? And as NatKat says, why should that be a reason for hating him? I wonder if people said the same things about David Cassidy, back in the day (who was way more beautiful than Justin will ever be :)).

So who cares if older people say he looks like a girl? Obviously he looks good enough to make fans go effing insane.

Um... maybe it's because he's annoying? I couldn't care any less what he looks like, what his voice sounds like, who he's dating -- but how about his music? In my opinion, it sucks. Therefore, to me, I like to "hate" on Justin Bieber.

I don't hate him or his music, I find it boring and easily forgettable. In through one ear, out through another.

Twilight, on the other hand, has done something very strange to one of my favourite mythological creatures; vampires. I don't mind romanticized vampires, one needn't look further than Carmilla (written in 1872, 25 years before that Stoker bloke wrote Dracula) to find them. Twilight, however, has in my opinion de-fanged the children of the night. Where is the darkness, the decadence? What happened to the foreign nobleman that turned him into a moody boy driving a Volvo and wearing beige?

I don't hate him because he supposedly sounds, looks, and acts like a girl - I'm just tired of hearing his music and about him/his crappy movie.
Hopefully pop music will soon move on to the next mainstream legend and my 9 year old cousin will start talking about something else.

hmm, well I think the book wasnt really my cup of tea eather thouhgt I have only read the first,
it was okay but nothing better, I am not a romantic person and the book were pretty "typical girl romantic" so it wasnt really something I got all crazy about, but I could understand why many girls would like this serie, after all. and even if they dont like it they can always look at the halfnaked guys (like me LOL)
---
about JB I think your right, the problem is not his music or him as a person or anything, but I think the fact is the girl stuff, I find almost offencive, I know I probebly shouldnt, but I just somehow get kinda angry. maybe im just sensetive, or maybe I feel it offensive because I can sound/sing like a girl and people would say the accept me for being trans and when they go for JB then they go all hating on how girly he sounds and so, I guess I cant stop thinking if they hate him for that then they would hate on me as well, or maybe not accepting me 100%
know its stupid but cant stop getting these thoughts into my head.

Try twisting them around.  Sure the haters choose that to pick at about him, but think of the masses of people who think he is the bees knees.  They all love him despite (and perhaps even distinctly for) his "girly" attributes, so maybe those features that are seen so hot in him would/could also translate in their mind as hot in you.  Depending on the person "zomg you look like justin beiber" is probably a compliment.

Hate is a really strong word. I don't know enough about him to hate him... But his 'fandom' along with all the other similar singers and 'pop' stars out there is what pisses me off. Not even the music itself per se but the appreciation it gets for being such bland drivel; it's more the thought that so many people out there are fanatically happy listening to songs with less meaning than lint and will shun anything with a shred of credibility to it - songs not usually in the charts.

Every now and then an artist comes along who can make it big time with respectable, provoking and throughout songs - that is outstanding, but the fact it happens so little now (and most songs, especially by Beaver, are about girls afaik - or by others, sex, drugs and money) kind of makes me feel a bit sad for humanity. Strive to learn, listen to things outside the box, experience things outside the box, not just be happy with what corporate moneymakers want you to be confined to in order to make the most profit.

Being 'different' is also a stupid trend because then you close your mind to popular stuff that is all right, granted, there's very little of that, but I just wish people would be individuals and find out what they like by themselves. And if someone does that- makes an informed, individual assessment about Beiber and then likes his stuff, power to them because you like what you like and you can't help that.

I don't agree with calling him a girl but this is reasoning I disagree with. People call him a girl because he has a more androgynous beauty, longer hair, and a higher-pitched voice. Not all insults give a profound statement about an individual, except perhaps one about their manners.

Yes, I agree with that. I am guilty for thinking he was a female at first. And that has nothing to do with my self-esteem or anything like that he just does have an androynous look and sound.

Some people just like or dislike things. There doesn't always have to be an explanation for everything. Even if it's not that relevant to the original post, he might have just posted to show that not everyone thinks he is a whiny ->-bleeped-<- girl. I don't know much about him to create a valid opinion.

Post by: Wolf on November 01, 2011, 06:18:45 PM
Yeah it is a bit off topic now. Well as far as comparing him to a girl... Most people I guess don't realise how harmful it is. It's like using the term 'gay' as an insult.

Think of it like this: almost anything can be turned into an insult if someone dislikes someone. If a man is very macho, and someone dislikes him they might call him an 'ape', a brute or misogynistic. If someone is thin, people will insult them as 'skinny' 'skeletal' and comment about how they should eat more... Someone is a bit overweight, insults aplenty.

Gender roles are so deeply rooted within society, people can't help it. It's ingrained into children from a young age to be one gender and stick to the activities and habits of that gender... Or you'll be ridiculed. People who like him obviously aren't going to 'insult' him and him apparently 'looking/singing' like a girl doesn't come into it because they aren't looking to insult him. Those who do not like him turn to what is obvious to insult him with - that he is a bit fem looking and his high pitched singing voice...

It's sad but true, and something that will not easily be changed...
