While the regulations and the Real ID Act itself could dramatically impact trans people in negative ways, trans people should keep the following in mind:

I really hope this thing gets overturned and not just for trans-related reasons.

Yes!  :icon_joy:  That buys me more time to transition.  I was so worried about the previous date.  I'm sure I can have SRS and get my docs changed by the new date.

Likewise! I hope more states follow Maine and this gets voted out, it has negative impacts for many people, trans and otherwise. Shades of 1984 anyone?

If the Dems lock the Presidency and control 60 seats in the Senate (and of course also still control the House), they'll be able to repeal it in a heartbeat.  The former seems likely, the but the latter could be a tricky thing to do.

If nothing else, it's three more years for me to find a new place to live. :)

That is very good news!  Thanks very much for posting this article LIT.  As I said previously, the real ID Act is not your friend if you are TS; it doesn't matter if you are pre-op, post-op, or whatever.  I will also keep my fingers crossed; hopefully it'll get overturned.
