Thanks for the links, extremely interesting as Samoa with all it's ultra tough tattooed rugby players never seemed like this :)

Found this from one of your links. Very beautifully written personal story: http://www.samoafaafafine.org/sfa/our_stories/Entries/2009/5/22_The_Beauty_in_Ugly.html (http://www.samoafaafafine.org/sfa/our_stories/Entries/2009/5/22_The_Beauty_in_Ugly.html)

Kia Ora Mimpi,

::) I would say when it comes to trans people in Aotearoa 'Fa'afafine' would make up the bulk of the trans-population and Auckland has the largest Polynesian population outside Polynesia, especially south Auckland...

::) You might like to view this http://www.nzonscreen.com/title/takatapui-2004 (http://www.nzonscreen.com/title/takatapui-2004) which was produced by Maori TV, sadly it run out of funding and as stopped for a while...

In short Takatapui is the umbrella term[a Maori word] for LGBTQ
