Ok so a little late but since this is the first time i've seen it and it was on adult swim tonight, is anyone else SEVERELY PISSED about that offensive trash of an episode of family guy as i am? It made me cry a little because it was just....cruel! for him to be so FOR the LGBT community he sure has a ->-bleeped-<-ed up way of showing it.....excuse my language by the way i'm sorry :( it just upsets me....what made it worse what some of the comments i saw weren't very trans-friendly and they were comming from a gay guy! that shocked me its like i agree that gender identity and sexual orientation are OBVIOUSLY two VERY different things but its the fact that he was just so rude its like "don't lump us together with those people" like erm...what the hell?! why all the hate? what about your fellow transpeople that ARE gay and lesbian, are you still gonna shun them?...smh....i dont know i just felt like even though we're different from them atleast we belonged somewhere and that made me feel like we're alone.....idk...maybe im just too sensitive
Watch enough episodes of Family Guy and your bound to be offended at some point. If not the creators wouldn't be doing a very good job.
Which particular episode was it that troubled you so much?
Which 1 Quagmire's Dad?
momo you haven't been here in ages. o.O
That would be Quagmires, Mom!!!
I don't really get offended by it to be honest. Family Guy seems to aim to offend anyone and everyone equally using the same old shock-comedy style that isn't to be taken at all seriously, same as South Park.
I try not to be offended about show whose sole purpose seems to be to offend people. South Park is very hit/miss on this, there are a few Ms Garrison episodes I just don't care for, but some of them (the 300 parody, and the one with Dawkins) are hilarious.
I haven't heard anyone complain about Venture Brothers, which does the same thing. Is it just that the show is less well known?
I take it as it's it's a show and nothing more. I am who I am and not something some show says I am.
My only qualm was it wasn't funny
I don't get it, it's fine to be offensive to every group of people on the planet but the second they attack something that applies to you (a generic you, not just the OP) then they've gone too far?

I agree

That's so true.
There have been times when watching Family Guy that I will laugh at them making fun of someone and then I'll think about it and it will seem to be cruel and not funny at all. I don't know what that says about me.
I wholeheartedly agree with a thing Sean Lock says one what of his standups
"The only time you should be offended by what's on television is if you're watching the news and someone personally calls you a *%@&"
I thought that episode was offensive and not very funny, but I wasn't going to say anything because the answer to complaining about Family Guy is always going to to be along the lines of the responses you got.
I love family guy but havn't seen the episode that you are on about, i've got a rule that I live by "If you can't laugh at yourself you shouldn't laugh at others"
Laughter is a very good way of dealing with things outside your comfort zone, my close male friends were unsure about joking about my upcoming transition but I pointed out that we make fun of everything else about each other & as long as nothing is said in spite then i'll be laughing along.
This laid back attitude has helped them to accept things & ever since I adopted this rule my life has been less of a battle.
I'm not telling anyone that they shouldn't find things offensive but given the pressures we deal with in either keeping things hidden or trying to be accepted it's not suprising that we can get a bit touchy & easy to offend
I've just watched an episode of Sherlock Holmes where he was hired by a dowerger dutchess to investigate some 'foreign' woman who had managed to bewitch her son, the Duke of something, claiming to be a lady from a distinguished family, rich and well connected.
Holmes managed to expose her as the ilegitmate daughter of a gypsy. The story ended with her being carted off to her just deserts or something.
I found that infinately more offensive than anything Family Guy could turn up with.
People don't meet us every day. Maybe he was parodying societal overreaction.
I thought the Family Guy episode was ignorantly done and not very clever, but I don't mean to say it was so bad you should avoid it or boycott the show or anything. It's still Family Guy. If you check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Family_Guy_episodes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Family_Guy_episodes) you can see who wrote and directed which episodes. I don't think Devanney is one of the better writers.
Family guy just isn't that funny anymore imo same with south park.
I like the new-ish futurama episodes thou :D
I too am now so pissed. The offense that is Family Guy just went to far in a TBS repeat. The Jesus Hour or whatever it was episode.
Thank God they didn't mock Muhammad. They would have a fatwa issued against them in that case.

They would have been protected by freedom of speech.
Not according to the Islamist types. Crap, they where out to a Dutch cartoonist and just last week firebombed a French newsmagazine.
omgsh guys its horrible it made me cry a llittle because one they portayed her as what everyone sees transwomen as, having a masculine face with a womans body "sort of" and ill be the first too say that transwomen like women in general come in ALL shapes and sizes and another thing i mean the beastiality thing is kinda gross but the fact it was another being with her and he was so discusted he threw up for 30 seconds and then louis and peter laughing and crap the whole episode was very rude and hateful and if i was near mcfarlan or how ever you spell his name i'd smack the ->-bleeped-<- out of him.
@trista
omgsh girl yes i've been m.i.a for a while lol i been busy with school TT-TT
@Michelle
everything pretty much pissed me off about this episode but at the same time i guess its no surprise..
Keep coming back!
I sometime forget how tick and swisted my sense of humor can become.
For those of us in the UK, where any sort of TV schedualing is hit and miss, this is a wikipedia summary:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quagmire%27s_Dad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quagmire%27s_Dad)
its true family guy can be very offensive at times but its the shock factor that makes it so popular and unique. just because the creators made some of the characters have certain views does not mean to say they are their own views. as a writer I have written stories with characters who were racist, homophobic and just plain evil but that doesn't mean I feel that way it just gives my storylines more depth. family guy shows alot of human ignorance that genuinely goes on in life and they don't seem to leave any subject untouched. it's bound to offend at some point (i'm a big fan of the show yet I often find it offensive) it's getting laughs out of taboo subjects that keeps the show going but it really shouldn't be taken too seriously.
I'd also like to point out on the feature length episode (where stewie goes to the future with his adult self) meg has infact undergone a sex change and nobody is actually bothered by it or makes low comments. sure there's a couple of jokes about it like saying he is going to buy razors cos he's a guy now but that's just like meg's character thriving for attention that she rarely gets.
There are very few portrayals of us in the media that are not offensive to me. I could count them on my fingers. Even ones that are genuinely funny, like on Frasier, where Roz predicts a drag queen will wind up with her bridesmaid dress; still offend me in the way they play off bad stereotypes and outdated idioms.
But one episode of Family Guy included one of the good ones. The episode where the wife doesn't realize her new female friend is a drag queen who lives as a woman. So I cut the show some slack on the latest episode. The dog barfs entirely too long, which is insulting, even though it made me laugh both times I watched it. And she boinked a dog, and it made the dog barf. That's pretty insulting.
However, the ignorant things the family says, which are hopefully exposed to the audience as ignorant; I think that's affirming. It helps smart and sensitive people understand what we are up against.
In conclusion, I don't wish the episode didn't exist or didn't air; but it's a close call.
First, this show like toooooooooo many others is PRIMARILY AIMED at Society's lowest common denominator . I won't watch the show as to me, it's demeaning to all. Theres always the OFF button , use it ! ellen
the Scottish comedian Jerry Sadowitz once said -
'Being offended is a tax you pay so you can laugh at jokes that offend other people'
I'm all behind edgy humour, and I used to LOVE Family Guy, but I feel it has lost that little bit of inspiration that made the offensive content work, and now it's just ticking boxes... going through a list of people they havent offended yet and going for the jugular. I think what made this particular episode rediculous was the fact that the offensive content came from Brian who is the tolerant and grounded part of the show, despite being a Dog.
Peter can say anything offensive about anyone and it used to be funny because he is a complete Idiot. Stewie can because he is Evil (or at least is Evil when the writers remember he is evil), but making it Brian is what made it out of order in my opinion. It was no more Transphobic in my opinion though than Ace Ventura which is somehow considered a classic of 90s comedy (I disagree)
These days give me American Dad... Roger is my idol... Effete, Self absorbed, and can pass in public... i'm two-thirds Rger!!!

I never thought about that. I agree it would have made more sense coming from Peter or Stewie.

Just a typical non violent straight guy reaction. You just have to accept that some straight men may be attracted to a transwoman...But what she was/is grosses some of them out. Better than Brian bashing her skull in.

Isn't that from King of the Hill?

That is from King Of The Hill, the episode is called "The Peggy Horror Picture Show" I actually just finished watching it about two minutes ago on my dvr. It was a good episode.
South Park has always been a little edgier than I can handle, but I might seek out the Mr/Ms Garrison thing.

It was utterly hilarious.
I stopped watching South Park when the Garrison thing happened. That portrayal is disgusting.

How true!
How about this for an open challenge. Which group or person offends you the most? Too the point that you laugh at their expense. Even applaud them being publicly humiliated. Or better yet, lampooned on SNL.
The next time that happens. Write a letter or start a campaign in support of that person.
I doubt the above will ever happen.
The funny thing about the taxes reference. Way to many of us today want everyone else to pay them, while we pay none ourselves.
