On a brisk Sunday afternoon, more than 100 people met at the Bixby Park Community Center to vent and plan how to banish hate crimes from Long Beach.

The forum, hosted by Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal with help from the Long Beach Police Department, The Center in Long Beach and various other LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community groups, was planned after the Halloween night attack on two gay men; it comes on the heels of another street assault several weeks ago.
