Title: What is considered "SRS" for us (FTMs)?????
Post by: vandalrivera on November 08, 2011, 01:08:59 PM
I still don't understand, some people are saying that top surgery is enough to get a name/sex change and others are saying hysto. Is it bottom surgery? What is enough to get a name/sex change on documents for an American? California, to be specific.

In some places you just need hormones. I would think with California you would need a doctor's note for a change on ID. Not sure about birth certificate. Social security needs proof of surgery. Not sure if that's top or hysto.

Generally, if it's not specified which surgery you need proof for, you could go either way. I've heard of a couple of guys down here in Florida - where the "proof of surgery" isn't speicified - that got gender markers switched on top surgery alone. Not sure what California law says, though...

well different states have different standards but top surgery is SRS. NY for instance you only need a letter saying you have GID to change the gender marker on your state id (license) to change your other stuff in NY you need to have some form of SRS so most guys have top surgery. im not sure about california

California seems like a semi-progressive state, so top-surgery sounds about right. Awesome! Thanks

It definately depends from where you're from. Country and I guess in America it differs per state?

Here in the Netherlands, at the moment you're required to have a hysto before you can get your name and gendermarker changed, though with a bit of luck they're going to change that in 2012!
