Title: A question about heels and height.
Post by: Bird on November 08, 2011, 07:00:54 PM
I used to only use very small heels, this weekend I went out and bought 3 different heels at Carmen Steffens. One is smallish, the others are taller, though not incredibly so.

I was wearing this today:

Anyway, I'm 5'8'', with those platforms I am about the size of the tallest guy at my group of students at our internship. Though I am thin, so my build is getting feminine at this point thank god. There are women who are about my size around here and it is not hard to find taller guys. I feel quite good about my height actually, I don't mind being the tallest girl around.

But I wonder if it can be intimidating. I realise it certainly sounds an alarm towards transness. But I am unsure if I should wear them whenever I want to or if I should make a point to stick to flats due to my height. Nearly everyone knows I am trans around these parts, so passing is not really the point, but more about what is appropriate for a tall woman to wear.

It will attract the eyes to you. It does increase your chances of being clocked, since people will kind of look for something that's off (very tall women are unusual and some women envy them; envy leads to analysis). But if you pass otherwise and don't have super broad shoulders, I don't think it will be a problem. Though if you're tall and going to wear heels, you must beam with confidence, I think.

I'm 5'9 and i still wear heels but only on special occasions. It kinda sucks cuz as a trans girl attracting attention is the last thing you want but heels are so dam stylish it's hard to resist! Lol i have a huge shoe collection made up mostly of heeled shoes that i hardly ever get to wear...i just can't stop buying them!!  :D   ::)

Yea it does attract attention, I guess I kinda like it though :)

I was really confident today and in the mood for heels. I suppose I won't make them everyday wear, but now and then, they certainly fit. More so if you have a really stylish look to go with it. As I go on month after month on HRT my body is getting thinner, without weight loss, so I think it is fine.

The tallest one is the leader!

Not all attention is good, be careful.

   That would be wise.  :D

I'm like 6'2" and I like heels, I now wear most time flat boots but I want to buy some winter boots on heel (and coat to make more andro look)
I met lot of girls tall like me on streets, so I don't think it is a problem

I am also on the tallish side. I was nervious about wearing heels at first as I also did want to attract unwanted attention

I do wear them and it does make me look taller. I love my heels.

I like to wear boots with 3inch heel, with jeans and it does make you look very natural.. (difficult to explain).. I have had some looks, but I just ignore.

Wear those heels girl .

When I was younger and wore heels  I got stared at non stop.   It's because of the height more than appearance.  I am 5 11.  I also have a size 10 shoe so it was difficult to find shoes that I liked that were inexpensive that gave me the lift of height and the style without being too enormous.  It gave me great legs and most of my height is in my legs so it was very eye catching if I wanted it to be.  If you like attention work the legs.

But if you can't handle attention then be careful, being tall in heels will get you lots of attention even if you are a regular female,  so don't misconstrue it to be about being a MtF.

Confidence is key I think. I used to be totally paranoid about standing out. At 6' tall in stockings  I towered over women in my age group as well as most guys. Adding another few inches to that was not high on my to-do list. The real problem for me in those days was feeling even more of a fake presenting as female, then faking being a guy. I just felt anyone looking at me instantly knew too.

I usually wear heels. First off they are like the only semi-decent looking shoes in my size (11). I gave up on cute long ago! Most flats I see in my size look worse then guy shoes. Second, and most important, I've come to grips with myself and have tons of self confidence. These days of taller women and taller men helps. Sometimes I notice a glance that lasts a little too long that worries me (from women). Most of the time I go remarkably unnoticed. I love it  ;D

I'm 5'11"... and routinely wear 4" heels.

Solution: Find taller men. Simple.  ;)

As for people picking up on whether you're trans or not, height really wouldn't be on the top of my list, unless you're something like 6'5" etc.

I think is more about proportions than total heigh. You can be tall an have legs relatively shorts in comparision with your torso, then the heels makes a better proportion.
