I just registered on a website (I'm not gonna say what website because I wanna remain anonymous) and the options for gender was male, female and trans! Which I think is great. Just thought I would share that! ;D

I've seen it before. And I see it increasingly on paperwork, surveys, etc. It is nice, and definitely encouraging. However, I always get irritated when they won't let me select more than one option. My identity as trans is very important to me and how I see myself, but so is my identity as a man. I don't like to have to erase one for the sake of the other.

It's cool that they're trying to be inclusive, but at the same time "trans" is not a third gender. It's not a gender at all. It is a medical condition. We are still just as male as any other guys, so I would choose the "male" option.

On paper forms, check both male and trans? Although maybe some derp will read that as "born male - now trans".
MEH it's a step. I honestly prefer the form of "Gender: Male/Female" because then I don't feel legally obligated to list my medical, genetic sex. But there are plenty of people who identify differently than just male or female.
I really d think the whole question of sex/gender is completely irrelevant. Most job applications don't ask and some online applications I've submitted have an extra survey feature which asks for optional imput, including whether you identify as male, female, or transgender and even LGb - just for statistics and to enhance their HR. Home Depot did this and they're incredibly LGBT-supportive.
But yes. In short, that is very cool.
Trans isn't really a gender on its own which bothers me. Should just have no gender maker or a write in option instead.
Yeah, I noticed vampirefreaks had this option. :( But my account with all my old friends has my birthname tacked to it, so I don't mess with it much anymore.
Google+ has an other option for gender, which I thought was pretty cool.
If it was for online dating sites or something and had cismale/cisfemale/transmale/transfemale options then that it would be a good idea. But that there makes it sound like we are aliens or something... might as well ask male, female, or freakmosexual.
If it's for a work application I don't know why they even ask it at all. It is irrelevant to your qualifications.

I agree.
It seems to me that they might as well just put "male/female/deformed" and get it over with. I loathe to check boxes labelled 'trans' or similar on forms.

I agree. I wish that all forms, when asking for your gender, have a subtitle of "Put whatever gender you feel, regardless of your body."
Now to me, THAT would be really trans-supportive.

My gut reaction was similar. I've been around long enough for my suspicion of people to be at peak, so it could just be paranoia.
I've seen that before. It kinda made me lol more than anything. It's like seeing that poll that said "What preference do you identify as (or some ->-bleeped-<- like that): Gay, Straight, Bisexual, Hispanic". I mean, on one hand it would be nice to click on Hispanic since I'm Mexican, but on another, what does that have to do with anything? o.o So it's the same with that "pick your gender" thing. What the hell do I mark!? It's too damn late for this ->-bleeped-<-! D:
