I guess I just need to rant a bit for a minute. Basically the medical center i was going to specialized in general trans health, T scripts, lower exams, letters, everything. Anyway apparently their Medical Director left back in June or July and I was never informed. So I go to call for my annual and the renewal of my T and they're all "we can't do that anymore, we called people and told them and wrote their prescriptions with extra refills." BUT THEY NEVER DID FOR ME. Anyway now I'm scrambling around to find another doctor who'll take my insurance which is an HMO so a lot of people won't touch it AND who also feels comfortable writing me the prescription WITHOUT a letter because the other doctor never required it. So I get an OB/GYN that'll take me but I just feel really awkward and uncomfortable about it. Not to mention if he wants new blood work and stuff I'm not sure how long that's going to take and I have maybe two doses left in my vial. I'm only a little under 7 months on and I'm FINALLY starting to notice some really awesome changes. I really don't want to have to put all that on hold.
I am really sorry of hearing that.
:(
I hope you find a new Doctor as soon as possible.
My best wishes for you.
:)
that sucks, hopefully the ob/gyn office will be cool about the whole process and just rewrite the scrip. were you at least able to make an appointment sooner rather than later?
Call around --- alot of times doctors will continue the prescription - they just don't want to be the first doctor to prescribe it. Where did the medical director go -- can you follow him?
@Aintza. Thanks <3
@spacerace - Yeah my appointment is for the 15th so next tuesday. As long as he doesn't need to redo all my bloodwork (I had it done less than 6 months ago) then I'll be fine if he just rewrites it. But if he does it then it's a week to get to him, 2 weeks for the blood work, and then time to actually get the stuff. Still that's better than nothing since I'll only miss one dose that way.
@Robert Scott - Yeah I called a few places but I live in GA so there is a lot of close mindedness. A few doctors were all 'we don't feel comfortable prescribing that'. The Medical Director went to another state I think. I don't have all the details but there are some people that I can ask.
I think your best option would be to find the details for the Medical Director when you can, perhaps ask him if he could write a letter/give your next doctor a phonecall and explain the situation or even just give them the heads up to fill your prescription again.
Sucks that you live somewhere where the doctors are close minded. :( the doctors I've seen where I live are usually quite relaxed and laid back about it.
Best of luck, though. :)
Theres a few places here in Atlanta that you can go to. If you want the info PM me I'll send it your way. I asked around and found several trans friendly docs.
Hey I agree with Robert. Emphasize that you have a history of being on this drug. Discontinuing, without medical reason, a drug that you've been on for 7 months is an action that will go against their instincts.
