Title: Veterans Day
Post by: Devlyn on November 11, 2011, 06:12:10 AM
Today is Veterans Day, so if you see a veteran, walk up and say "Thank you." I'll start. Thanks to all the veterans and supporters here at Susans for your sacrifice. Hugs, Tracey

Thank you veterans. Sucks I have to work today. There was absolutely no traffic today though so that's a plus. :P

I have to work, too. Traffic was light, though.

I always thought that we should give the day to Vets as a paid-day off.  Everyone else works.  But I bet that would cost too much, for someone.

Of course I think on the original meaning a lot too.  That eleventh hour, of the eleventh day of the eleventh month and all that.  That whole deal about The War to End All Wars.  To make the world safe for democracy and all that.  Hell, I'd be happy if we could make the US safe for democracy anymore.

And it was all so ?_____________ (useless/silly/stupid/counterproductive), the war happened because no one really knew how NOT to make it happen, but they were all so full of cleaver ways to get it going.  Fast.

Thank you to all the Vets that joined up to serve their countries. I might not support the wars we have waged but i can appreciate the sacrifices people make in teh service of what they believe in and I have the upmost respect for these people.

Speaking as a vet. I'm not sure why but the whole "Thank you for your service" has always bothered me. Not that I don't appreciate people showing their gratitude, I would just smile and nod. But deep down it bothered me cause I always thought do people even know what they are really thanking me for?

The abuse I suffered from the military? The years away from my family? the fact I couldn't mourn my mothers death during my deployment? The fact some had to face combat while fobbits just had a 9 to 5 day?

I know a lot of people don't truly know what happens when you serve but I do. So to those I say my thanks for all of it. and for those who are still serving NCO and up. I ask to do your part to make life just a little bit tolerable for those under you.

And a Happy day after Veteran's Day from one who also served to those that served...and the ones we served.

Tekla..sometimes you out do yourself...that's a great idea!

And yes Gwen, I knew that, but thanks for the reminder.

I know i cant fully understand the sacrifice that service-people face but i have talekd to many people who have served for long and short amounts of time and the things they told me turned me from a person who didnt understand why people would join up to someone who realised that people in the forces have faced hardships i could not imagine. Its that that makes me want to thank vets. I mean no disrespect
