Title: Can I avoid facial electroysis forever?
Post by: MsDazzler on November 17, 2011, 11:02:02 PM
I know, I know - tweezing is not recommended in case you want to go down the electroysis route someday because it might distort the hair follicle, making it harder to zap it.

With that out of way  ;) .... I have tweezed my upper lip for years but shaved my sideburns, the chin, and the area underneath it. Well, once I finally accepted myself as a transgender woman and started hormones, I decided that I DID NOT want to shave my face anymore as it was a reminder of my male ghost. So I hunkered down and sat in front of a mirror and started tweezing all of my facial hair few nights ago. Amazingly enough, after an hour, I made it!!! Almost every hair was pulled out (granted, I did not have much to begin with since I am Asian and had light facial hair)! My arm and hand ached after doing that.

But, it was worth it - now I just touch up with tweezing regrowing hairs there and this before bed at nighttime. I am hoping over months of hormones, I will only have to tweeze once a week or so. Those facial hair folliciles are really stubborn buggers; they keep coming back and back.  :icon_anger:

Do you think I can successfully avoid electroysis forever? I hate NEEDLES, it sounds painful, and I do not have the budget to include electroysis at this time.

You can go thru the laser hair removal option, assuming that you are east asian, your skin is light enough for it. It will still hurt but not as much as electrolysis, your zapped by beams of laser (duh) and doesn't involve needles. If you are really scared of pain like me, you can use a numbing cream with local anasthestics like before the procedure. And I've tweezed my eyebrows, upper lips, and chin for 6-7 years... it annoys me that they are still growing, luckly I wasn't hairy to start with

i have pretty sparse facial hair, but i just shave it, and it's invisible. it's mostly just long and dark which makes it look just messy up close. alot of it depends on genetics. i think i'm more hairy genetically and it had little to do with the fact i was born male. i heard that if the hairs are getting pulled out, you'll eventually cause it to grow back thinner. i'm not sure how true it is, but i would say you should just be safe rather than sorry, because plucking daily can get pretty tedious.

i'm actually pretty worried that if i got laser, it would leave permanent burns on my face. i have skin like ivory, so it would be a nightmare.

Plucking causes alot of ingrown hairs. I would start with laser first & see how it goes.

Black absorbs all light(energy) and white reflects all lights (doesn't absorb energy), the whole point of laser is to transfer a huge amount of energy,in the form of heat, targeting the hair follicle and destroy it, while leaving the skin intact. It works best if you have light skin, and dark hair. It could cause burns on dark skin, but nothing to worry about if your skin is light as ivory :)

that's a good thing then. i guess it also depends on if the technician knows what they're doing. i've seen a lady here before who got something that looked like a sunburn from laser. she probably got it done by someone very inexperienced.

I was burned by laser 11 yrs ago at the corner of my mouth. Make up helps but without it i can see it plainly.

If you can pluck out all your facial hairs in an hour... well, some GGs spend that much time plucking.  And many of those women do electro then never have to pluck again.

There is nothing that will get you clocked easier than facial hair.  If your facial hair is that sparse, what's keeping you from just getting rid of it?  FOREVER!

MsDazzler. Whenever you find the funds to, I would get it done. That way you can just forget about it and save an hour a day to do other things.

Sure, you can avoid laser/electrolysis forever...if you intend on having facial hair, forever.  Trust me, tweezing is a pain in the bum and facial hair, by far, is some of the most stubborn hairs you'll ever encounter.  Today will be session seven for me of laser, and I still foresee another five sessions (as 12 sessions is the max she will do).  I was classified as one of the "perfect" candidates for laser; dark hair/light skin - and as true as that may be, I'm still working at getting rid of it all.

As said, laser would probably be a better option for you as it does not involve any needles or any sort of "penetration" for that matter.  Secondly, laser covers a greater area at one time, lessening your overall time of sitting in there (hours for electrolysis vs minutes for laser).  And lastly, due to it covering a larger area, you can maximize this advantage as you'll take care of the majority of the hair at once, and then focus on electrolysis (if you're up to it) for the pesky hairs that won't die.

Nonetheless, back to the point - you can tweeze, and tweeze and tweeze - and I promise you that you will be tweezing for a very long time.  Though, it is your choice, just offering my point of view.

How long does electrologist need to kill one hair? I just want to have idea how long it will take.
It looks I must use something stronger, laser didn't kill them on my upper lip even as I have transparent skin and black hair (when I shave it then it stay smooth for two or three days but shadow is really visible still)
I take me about half to whole hour to pluck it once a week.

Are you on HRT? I find that as weeks on HRT pass, I find myself tweezing less and less hair as the growth starts to slow down....

i can honestly say after 6 laser appoints and 9 hours in the electrolosys chair that electroysis is less painful by far especially on the upper lip......This is just my experience i fall asleep during electroysis while laser no chance. Take a small rubber band put it between two fingers, pull way back and pop it on your cheek, now repeat 72 times(my average zap count per session was 72)

Pursuing this thread in a similar but different vein- have you tried gential electroysis yet? Is it even more painful down there? I tried tweezing a hair from that area - OUCH!!!  :icon_blah:

I'm just on low dose estrogen without blockers.
I have just that upper lip, something was at chin, but it seems laser works here well
