Amongst the GLBT community here over the years it's mostly been referred to as simply the 'Mardi Gras'.. As in 'Are you going to the Mardi Gras this year?' or 'Which club did you party at after Mardi Gras?'

Personally I just think the whole Mardi Gras thing is so Sydney.  TasPride is more my speed.

It may just be that like the Folsom Street Fair, it's moved beyond its original constraints and has become a far more pan event.
