Title: Changes in Hair texture.
Post by: TreyLeeGamer on November 26, 2011, 07:28:21 PM
I was doing some online searching about if hair could change it's natural texture (as in straight, wavy, or curly) over time. The answer was that it could, and that Hormones have a major effect on hair texture. The major hormones listed were Thyroxine, triiodothyronine, Androgen, and Insulin and changes were usually seen during puberty, chemotherapy or menopause.

I know that hair lost and hair growth are anticipated changes of HRT but now I wonder if anyone experienced their hair changing texture during HRT? What changes in your hair did you notice after you started HRT?

I haven't been on HRT long enough to see if my wave pattern has changed (I started with 7" long hair, only a little over an inch has been subjected to estradiol). However, my hair is much, much less oily. I used to need to shampoo my hair once every 2 days or else it would feel greasy. Now it doesn't get greasy at all! It's as if the sebaceous glands thoughout my scalp have shut down completely. Of course, this change happens throughout the body, so that's why many MtFs will notice an increase in dry skin while supressing T.

Yes It's MUCH less oily slightly fluffier and slightly thicker aswell.
Pepole have at times remarked on how different it is now.

It was frustrating for a time during my transition as I couldn't get it to behave no matter what.

That frustrating time frame wouldn't happen to be around 3 months HRT would it? Because I'm experiencing the same frustrations! I've tried everything short of a relaxer to straighten my hair, but it just frizzes right back to the way it wants to be in an hour or two!

Mine went from curly... to SUPER CURLY after HRT. Big difference and a major pain in my posterior.
