Title: Placental Lactogen
Post by: Dale on November 29, 2011, 07:41:08 PM
I am considering talking to my DR to add Placental Lactogen to my therapy. Has anyone had a experience with it?

In the female body it is one of the hormones for breast development.

presumably this PL is available and passed as safe for TS?
and what cost?
and side effects?
and your doctor will be happy to use you as a guinea pig?
stick to the usual well tried stuff to get nice results or go the PL route and report back.

It is a natural hormone in a women, one of 3 or 4 for breast development. I will do alot of research, talk to my DR. and my compounding pharmacy. Collect all the information I can, then make a decision.

quick surf shows its weird stuff and probably useless for a TS.
60 years or more experience with estrogen says thats the way to go.

I can't see how it's going to make any difference to breast development.. It's main function seems to be as an insulin antagonist, enabling higher maternal blood glucose levels which enables adequate foetal nutrition. It does also mimic the function of prolactin, but the sources I read were unsure if it actually functions the same. It also only has a half-life of 15 minutes..

OK, you've obviously made up your mind, despite the fact you came here asking for advice.. I just wonder how you are going to keep a decent serum level when it has a half-life in the bloodstream of 15 minutes.. Are you going to pop little pills all day? Never mind the fact there doesn't seem to be any proof it does anything for lactation apart from the fact it mimics prolactin.. And mimicry is not the same as having the same function. Nowhere in the research I did, did I see anything about it causing growth..

TBH, the only thing I can see this doing is causing diabetes-like issues with serum glucose levels..

You realise that it is only present in pregnant women, so it is very unlikely to have any effect on breast development - as the majority of women have already got breasts by the time they get pregnant.. The 'growth' seen during pregnancy is often no more than fat.. And in later stages, milk..

Kelly I appreciate your comments. I am still collecting information.

I'm going to +1 kelly's post and add that no doctor worth their license will rx it without diagnosis, which GID is not one of them.
