has anyone travelled abroad with a passport that did not have the gender marker changed? i am concerned that i'll have some problems given I have had FFS and my name has been legally changed.
For all intents and purposes I pass 100% which in this case is scary because my passport says male and some customs officers may be like wtf? I'm visiting the Dominican Republic so its not exactly a trans-friendly country, but it's not exactly a trans-hating one either.
Any advice or those who'd like to share their experience?
When i was travelling to the US in september, i had no problems and the agent barely looked at my passport. He may have noticed the gender marker back then and just not said anything.
I knew some people having a doctors or psychologist statement about their gender transition. To them it was rather embarrassing having to wave the letter around and show the security personal.
Why don't you just changed the passport? Have you checked the guide lines for this procedure at the place you reside?
i just tell them like its no big deal and they let me pass

Lol Yeah, I've done that. I had almost hip-long fake hair and a purple coat, and the controllant eyed the Passport really confused(I had put a really girly pic in the Pass, too, as I looked basically the same in boymode anyway :laugh: ) and said in broken English; "It says "Male" here?!"
Me; "Yeah, so?"
Him; "??"
Me; "Well I am trans, is it illegal to be ->-bleeped-<- or anything? ::)"
Him; "No, no, not illegal!".
That was it, basically, and it really don't have to be any more complicated than that either.
Don't worry, just stand strong and hold your head high and be proud and that will be enough to solve most situations, actually. :)

last holiday I had to an Arab country the guy barely compared my pix with me...on return to UK I and my passport were photod and checked but no probs.
An Atlanta TSA agent had to ask me three times "are u male or female?" before I could answer. Rather amused and not expecting it finally said "male of course why do you ask?"

I never "gender-dress" in part because of a divorce court-order against it; and customs is really not a good place to be making any kind of "statements" one way or another. Why not just keep it "neutral-androgynous" and enjoy the apologies for being mistaken/assumed "as female" in the first place ?
In the the incessantly polite South "ma'am & sir's" can also be a constant source of smiles and delight !
That way it becomes THEIR BAD not YOURS ! Some countries will PROSECUTE & JAIL admitted transsexuals who deliberately misrepresent themselves (ie: natives of Thailand & some Middle East countries) or, best case, turn you right around and insist LEAVE RIGHT NOW!
(ps: i'm assuming your "pre-op" 'cause the U.S. doesn't have a third gender "T" marker YET! If "post-op" your travel docs could be considered "incorrect, not valid"? As far as "passing", how you look or feminine name is concerned, nobody should care Not Their Business but provocative dressing could still lead to trouble as lol "men will be men", wherever you go!)

I was told that it has been International law for several years to have third gender on Passports. Countries have no option except to accept it.
Do you not have enough time to change your passport? Or would you rather not?
At the airport, can you "male it up" a little, wear neutral clothing, and use your unaltered voice (if your voice sounds pretty deep)? Or are you unwilling to do that? I guess it would seem rather odd if your name is obviously female...yikes.
