Title: Help, I need a hair cut..
Post by: Siobhan on December 07, 2011, 05:58:12 AM
Not cut my hair for about 2-3 months, now i don't mind the length, but its a bit all over the place. Having a woefully poor sense of style and fashion i appeal to you all for advice :)
I normally have it shaved off on the back and sides with about 2 inches on top and the fringe about 2 inches.

Thanks !

Looks OK to me. You're just blindly moving into what a lot of folks call the "awkward stage"-- when seems to be in the way and sticky outy all the time. I've grown mine out multiple times and the last time I really experienced no awkward stage at all. I just took some mousse or gel and smoothed any goofy parts back until it was all longer. Once it gets a bit longer you want to see a stylist and have the bottom evened up or go for a layering, depending on  your tastes. Don't worry about growing your hair, though. If it bugs you just remember it's going to look great in a few months.

There's nothing wrong with your hair if you want it that length. There's not really much you can do with it. TBH that's a very boyish cut, though. IDK if that's what you're aiming for?

EDIT: I'd probably trim the bangs a lil. Perhaps to mid forehead. If not I'd trim them a bit above your eyebrows and feather them. I guess you could even out the hair a bit as far as its direction. And give it some lift! It's way too flat. Avoid spikes though, they just wouldn't look right for you.

Even if you plan on growing it out anyway, the thing you should probably do for now is to do what many here plain out have to do - wear a wig. Your hair is thin enough that a wig cap would work well with it, and from there, I think a dark brown (your hair color) wig that is shoulder length, slightly wavy, and very thick would bring out the female side of you very well. The great thing about a wig is that you can take it off any time if need be, depending on the wig you get. I would also suggest playing around with the idea of that wig having bangs, though thick, bobbed bangs may make your face too harsh; thinner, pieced bangs swept to the side may make a much better bet.

Right now, you have some very feminine eyes there, but concerning the rest of the face, I believe you have a transition to undergo. I'll say that I don't think you have the face that begs for surgery, but just concerning skin thickness, stuble, and touches here and there, I think hormones will continue to do wonders (and start them up if you're not on them!)

Also, remember that wigs can be cut to any length, many balding men wear them and you never really know. You can get it cut as short as you like, for example if you want thicker hair, but you want a cut that can pass as man's or woman's cut. As it is though, I just don't think your current haircut does anything for the gender you want to be, and it's a sucky situation to be in. I could really picture a short style on you as well if you want an androgynous wig; I could imagine a short, wavy haircut in almost in the style of Justin Bieber's, but with a hair texture that is quite wavy and black, like hispanic hair, curled to give a feminine touch but not overly womanly to the point you could never wear it in the office.

I always find wearing a cap from the 'annoying stage' thru to the 'able to be tied back stage' helps

OK thanks for the advice everyone, Im pre everything atm and present as male, so im not ready for a full on girl cut- i'd just look silly i think.
im looking to start growing my hair cos i know its gonna take ages..i have started electro at home tho.
My face does look gaunt atm cos im dieting and have lost a lot of weight unfortunately along with a double chin i also lost my 'hamster cheeks'.  :-\
I don't think atm i would go for a wig.. im hoping to find a androgynous style that will work with my face, and therefore allow me to progressively grow my hair out- any suggestions welcome :)

Well straight up, I wouldn't worry about your hair until you grew it out some. You need volume, and that will come once hair from the apex of your head reaches the tops of your ears. Usually, that's about 4-5 inches of growth, and that takes about 8-10 months to grow out. If you say you're at around 2 inches, you only have about 4-5 months to go. This is assuming your head size is similar to many others, and that your hair grows at the normal rate of 1/2 an inch a month.

Work on using a styling aid like polmade. That will take care of that annoying hair-sticking-up-and-out crap. Contrary to popular belief, do not cut your ends! It will not make it grow faster, and so what if it looks a lil crooked? You are trying to grow that hair out, and simply taking off half an inch of hair will set you back a month!

All that said, I wouldn't grow it out much... unless you're going to grow it WAY out. Your facial structure does not lend itself to a shoulder length cut. It'll take another year n some more on top of that for it to grow past that stage where it's shoulder length and looking funny! Get a style that frames your eyes / upper cheeks. That would flatter you the most!

I do suggest getting the eyebrows done. you'll feel better for that and people don't notice. Go to a salon and have then trimmed and shaped. The first time in I just told the person make them as cute and feminine as possible. They looked great and not a single male worker noticed, or at least said anything. I have then done regularly and people don't bat and eyelid or raise an eyebrow
