I am sorry for you ladies who wear wigs - I really empathize because I wore wigs for years and I hated it.... but I guess this question applies to the grrls here who have real hair.
I finally grew my hair to shoulder length - and it is all wild and curly, lol. It is not poker straight like most Asian hair tend to be. It was long enough to put it in a French Braid and I wore it to work. People commented on it - that I looked good with my hair pulled back, let it be in a French twist, updo with a clip, a ponytail, or a French Braid, because of my features.
IT surprised me because I always felt I needed to cover up my strong jawline.. thus be more passable.
Do you wear your hair up or pulled back - or down all the time to cover your "masculine" features"?
I have rather curly hair also :) I'll usually do a ponytail up on top of my head and let the hair frame my face or pull it back like a ponytail but with loop of hair pulled through so the curls point up rather than down (not sure what it's called) This is mostly to keep the hair out of the way while I wash my face but I've been told it's a cute style as well
For some reason I look more girly when I pull my hair back and clip it
tail or the front pulled to the back and cliped
Up or back in a pony-tail is usually reserved for when I'm working out or doing some sort of physical activity... otherwise, it's down 99% of the time.

Ponytail for me. Looks 100 times better that way.
Even if my jawline and chin is über male looking.

I agree. But despite what others have said about sex updos, I can't leave the house until I feel 100%. Which means often my hair is down or in a snooki pomp.
My stylist(he cuts hair in the Castro, btw) told me I had a good jawline and neck to wear updos and short hair if I wanted to. I just don't see it... I hate my jawline. :(...Nose, brows, eyes, chin and cheeks are perfect in my eyes though...except that fookin wide jaw. The guys like updos for some ungodly reason though.

My hair is shoulder length, but I actually look way more passable with my hair up or partially up.
I think having my hair down hides my natural heart-shaped face and makes the jaw look wider.
I wear it back and up.
Leaving it hang down looks messy and like some dude out of the back woods that can't get to a hairdresser. Also it's then much more in my face.
Axelle
mine is dead straight and a bit sparse at the fron so mostly let it fall from acentre parting but I do tie it back on occasion and am happy so see I don't have such an awful male jaw.
just wish I had the thick strong hair that a lot of GGs have. but my two GG bosses also wish they did too and my mother lost a lot of her hair quite young too so maybe I'm losing to my genes.

I wanted to but I am very careful with expensive items like that :P.
I found that when i pull my hair back it opens up more room on my face and detracts from my jaw / chin. The exact opposite happens when I wear something that covers my forehead (it places more focus on my brow ridge and jaw / chin...which I think isn't that flattering).
I dunno if pulling the hair back helps with the feminine thing... but it definitely looks better from an aesthetics point of view (which is what I am going for ideally... I want to look nice, I don't care too much about the gender).
I tend to wear mine down, except for when I am at work. then I will wear it in a ponytail. Although, Pre-transition, I wore my hair in pigtails for a while at work. And wore a glittery red baseball cap, and a hat with bunny ears... cowgirl hat too. Not all at once. Just to make people smile ^_^

Pigtails! Aww.. cute! I have not tried that one yet! With ribbons? heh
I think I look good either way, but prefer to have it back in a ponytail most of the time. I used to look really bad with my hair down, so I got into the ponytail habit and haven't really felt like changing it since.

Everything on your face looks perfect!! Even your jaw, i think its round and really cute, you are 10/10 Mahsa :icon_kiss:
I do my hair the way I feel on days lol most the time i wear it up on special occasions Down but i usually do a pony tail and bangs I have asian and black hair because im mixed and its in the middle between curly and wavy and it looks wild without anything in it but when I put conditioner in then I comb it back and out it in a bun and go out but my hair textire changes because when i straighten my hair it becomes full Asian nice, sleek, and shiny but there are days when my hair looks really nappy and rough i have my hair to my boobs now and its still growing although in the shower a lot of it comes out also hair breakage watch out when you put it up it can't be up to tight and never go to sleep with your hair tied up because it causes breakage but yeah lol my hair is growing but it looks and feels dead without any products but it maybe because im mixed I don't worry about jawlines because I natually look like a female that I am I was blessed to look like a hetero female without starting hormones maybe because I'm short like 5 foot and don't have much testosterone

You are too. I figure because everyone here is talkin about updos...THEY NEED TO POST PHOTOS!!! I prefer show and tell when it comes to talkin about stuff in our lives...
I think updos are very glamourous!!
generally down, but the way it is cut, it doesn't get into my face easily. I hate the way I look from the side too, so down helps me feel better about that.
I hate my forehead so it bangs for me mostly with a pony tail. Right now it's short, and I can't imagine WTF I was thinking... :(
Actually it was the result of a windy day and fire eating-- I needed to even things up a little afterwards!
I do drive a lot (No, I am not a trucker...!) and love to have the windows down when I can. That's when a kerchief and sun glasses work well, with a pony tail, or big barrette. Back in the late 80's I wore those damned Princess Diana bows a lot, but everyone did. I never committed the Banana Clip crime however! From now on it going as long as I can get it. And I bleach it blonde like the trashy cracker chick I am...
@Masha: You are so cute! I love your bangs and how anyone could look at your jaw line with those eyes? I believe the lady doth protest too much-- you're a living doll.

ok i hate wearing my hair up. i feel like my jawline is masculine and my facial hair still isnt really taken care of around the chin area. i feel like my long ass hair hides the masculine parts of my face. if im wrong then tell me please. if anyone sees anything that might need to be femenized please tell me !! i want brutal honesty, dont just tell me im pretty and dont worry about it. thanks

Once my hair grows out a little more, I'll probably go for a ponytail, but I'm not elegant enough for an updo. I used to keep a kind-of-bun in high school, but only because I liked having pencils in my hair and my girl friends really liked to do things with my hair. It didn't look good at all. :P
I like to pull mine up on the sides and set it with combs. That way, I can wear earings and have them show.

You looked awkward in the poses with your arms raised and holding your ponytail back... do you have ones of you in a rubber band holding back your hair with your arms down?
if I put my hair up , or if I wear it down, I look fine either way, as long as my hair is not pulled all the way back, cause my hairline had receded a little bit before I transitioned. it is something that I might get fixed one day but its not a really high priority ,
I usally will go out with it down , because of the simplicity of it. also about 2 months ago, I cut my hair and it is a bit too short to to make a ponytail , well not really but the thing is the hair tye will somites slide off.

Had the opposite experience. Everyone was all "omg, no don't do it," including my hairdresser. And then afterwards it was all... "ya, that looks waaayy better than before." Short hair actually makes my face look more delicate and slight. Long hair just looks like a lot of nothing.

did it I was really happy with it afterwards.

I don't even know where dykes hang out. How can a former gay man survive in dyke culture, even if on an "experimental" holiday? My parents are lezzies and I have no idea what dykes do or think or anything else. my Mom is a real ruffy though compared to my ultra femminess.
I've had a few lezzies hit on me and I won't lie...I've thought about it...In my room, underneath the covers, with a magazine to look at. An issue of CURVE.

Seriously, though. There are a couple of lesbian bars in SF. I know a friend who frequents Lexington. You never know what you might find attractive in there. ;)
...I should run a conversion therapy clinic that makes innocent, naïve little straight girls into superdykes. It'd be a great counter to all of those pray-away-the-gay places.

I would. But
MARRIED boyfriend went hyperbole tonight because I didn't text him. It's hard for me to get out to the City all night long and party.
Basically I can't party because he keeps me in digital bondage. But hey, he's a lucky 51 yr old even if it meant sacrificing my dreams and sexuality.

Sometimes I wear it behind my ears to show my earrings, but that is usually a nervous habit of playing with my hair.
I wear mine back when I'm working outside on farm stuff or when it is really windy, but otherwise I try to keep it down to help shadow/soften my face. Right now I'm trying out the curly girl method right now to see if I can keep my corkscrews for more than a 4-5 hours after washing.
Unfortunately all the nice looking short cuts require straight hair. I'd look like I was sticking my fingers in an electrical socket if I cut it short.
I've tried a few things out, but I don't know how to do anything elaborate with it since I was never taught and my wife never cared to learn.

this is such a coincidence. i was reading a kate bornstein book earlier today. it's called "my gender workbook." the section i was reading was on desires and how those qualities are something we look for in someone else, but then goes into how we could become the thing we desire ourselves and reach a new place of desire provided by ourselves. it's not the traditional thing, but the book is about how one can actually break out of the gender boundaries if they really want to and become something else.

I'm a femme...I have no desire to become a dyke. It's more of an exploratory fetish because I can actually land an open minded dyke girl now. But still ironic, because part of me feels like a gay boy. That's like stuff that happens at the MIX.

Yeah I have read that book. It is funny and sarcastic! :)
I tend to pass better with my hair up, but I've been getting more comfortable wearing it down lately.

Okay, some of you wear it back ....
Aside from the classic and typical ponytail, do you ever play with your hair back in different styles, such as the half-back with a clip, French braid, French twists, pigtails....?
Because most pics, if not all, I have seen of transgender women tends to portray them with hair down or if they even have their hair back at all, it tneds to be the boring ponytail, lol
