Varies a great deal from place to place. Im from the UK so my entire transition has probbaly cost me no more than £500 and thats just clothes, make-up and diesel to get to the doctors. Ive heard in some places in the US it can get rather pricey............

Therapy, laser, hormones, travel expenses, clothes, and voice therapy have probably cost me in the neighborhood of $10K (Canadian) so far. But, I live in a relatively small (70K people or so) city, so there have been a few things I had to travel for. OHIP covers SRS but assuming I had to pay for that transition would probably cost me around $30-40K when it's all said and done.

EDIT: And that's excluding FFS and BA

Most American and Canadian surgeons charge between $15,000-25,000 (USD) for sex reassignment surgery.  That's the biggest cost; however, the other costs will probably total about $10,000 after all's said and done.

Therapy

For me, $60 a session.  I went to a total of five sessions.  I had my HRT letter by the fourth session.

Hormones

This is something that will be a cost throughout your entire life.  I pay roughly $30 a month for Estradiol and Spironolactone.

Laser

I pay $80 a session.  So far up to six, I foresee another six or so still to go.  I don't know about electrolysis.

SRS

Varies between roughly $6500 all the way up to around $18000.  Depends on which surgeon.  This excludes travel, stay, etc aside from what the surgeon may provide/include in the price.

Clothing

Seeing as there are seven days in a week, assuming bare minimal you need only one outfit per day and depending upon where you shop, this may not cost too much.  I can't give estimates to this as there are way too many variables to consider.

Anything else

There should always be considerations for the unknown.

SOME insurances will cover surgery.  My insurance considers it (with certain criteria) a normal in-patient surgery and I have $1000 co-pay that I got re-embursed $800 of from my job.  My therapist doesn't take insurance so it's $60/session but if I went to someone through my insurance it'd be $30/session with an unlimited amount of sessions.  Hormones vary case by case with my insurance.  I guess what I'm saying is, if you're on your dad's insurance it's worth looking into.  I know you said money's not an issue, but still every little bit.  Also my name change was $530, but I went through an attorney that took care of all of the legal stuff for me so that included his fee plus all of the legal fees.

lucky you.  make sure he knows that the spending will be spread over a year or two.   And it will be a superb investment.

Congratulations!!! Not only is your dad supportive, he's going to help pay!?!? That's amazing. Time to celebrate. ;D He'll probably faint though when you give him the overall costs, hehe. It's a looooooot!
