Title: A Question about adding a name after...
Post by: Dominick_81 on December 22, 2011, 10:40:39 PM
...it has been printed in the newspaper. So I'm almost finished in getting my name officially changed. I had it printed in the papers, but at the time I couldn't decided on a middle name so it was Dominick and my last name printed in the paper, but now I have decided on a middle name. Would it be too late to put a middle name in now? Or would I have to go through the whole process again and pay another fee? I applied as a poor person.

Um. Depends on what county or parish? Call your local courthouse.

Chances are you will have to redo the newspaper part.

I had to see a judge and when I got up there, I asked him to take off one of the names at the last minute (I had added two middle names to keep a family name and at the last minute decided I only wanted 3 names instead of 4). There wasn't any problem; he just took it right off. It had already been in the newspaper I'm pretty sure. But if the matter's already settled court wise, you'll probably need a do over.

Of course, the adding of a name may be a different matter than dropping one. But it's worth a shot. Just ask.

Thanks. Now I'm not so sure about the middle name. My cousins say it sound girly or a girl's name. I think it's a unisex name.
