Hey this is a question to those MTFs/FTMs that are well into their transition/have transitioned!
Just curious if any of you have performed drag...ie: on a stage, in a cabaret, etc...cause its something I've seriously considered...I mean I dont feel comfortable enough right now because I just started on hormones a month ago...but I've been thinking that a year or two down the road itd be fun to bind my breasts, attach facial hair to a face that I've lasered, and pack something that Ive either tucked or altered and do a drag-king performance! So how many MTFs feel the same way as me. Likewise, how many FTMs out there have considered doing dragqueen performances? Or is that just WAAAAY too taboo for this board (haha)!

When I first started kicking round Salt Lake City as me, the only friends I found who would accept me were members of the the local MCC church. They took me in and offered me a wonderful friendship. They would drop by and pick me up on weekends for a night out on the town in the local gay bars.
What an education that was for me. I had never seen anything like it. I was shocked. Somehow, they managed to get me up on stage one night to lip sync to a song "Bad Boys" by Miami Sound Machine (Gloria Estephan). I had performed in a rock n roll band in years previous so I had some sense of entertaining. I had a blast with it and it was a big hit with the audience. Later that year, they asked me to represent the SLC delegation in the Idaho coronation by doing the same number. They took me to Idaho, I performed and had a blast.
So, there ya go. Two times on stage. That was my female impersonation career.

Interesting topic. I have to perform once every month or 2. Normally I just go as myself, but I had discussed about doing a drag king thing, but now I don't think I could do it psychologically. It would be too hard on me. I need more time and I may eventually try it.
As far as performing goes, I have gotten pretty good considering I had never done it before the middle of last year before.

Ummmmm.... Does playing in a band durring transition before full time count? Otherwide no and never thought about it, and dosnt sound like my type of thing.

If you had read the first post, you would've seen that it was asking if we have tried performing as dragkings since we are women.

I find the whole subject a bit topsy tervy. Its a nice idea but a little confusing.

P.S. Taboos are fun (well okay not all but a lot of them are)!
As long as I didn't pass I don't think I'd have a strong aversion to it, it just doesn't really seem like my idea of a "fun thing to do".

I thought you hadn't because you referred to drag queens when only drag kings were mentioned. When I figure out the answer to your question, I'll let you know. ;) Actually, the only reason I can think of is to prove that you can't pass as a guy.

Your point is valid Taru but you strive all your life just to get rid of the male look and then for fun do the drag king stuff, I dont think my mental state would let me do it.

Besides, I think drag being "crazy and stupid", meant in a good-natured "let's have fun!" kinda way is sorta the point of doing it, ya know?

I don't think that I could bind my breasts. Those tennis balls in there don't mash flat! ;)
In the right crowd, I'd do it. It's just fun. Besides... I wouldn't have to lip sync. I could sing with my natural voice. That in itself could be rewarding. I so miss singing for other people.

I've often thought that I'll know that I've achieved complete transformation when people think that I'm female doing drag when dressed as male. I once told someone I was trans, they asked which gender was I changing to ;D
I performed at a drag show/benefit many years ago, but we didn't lipsync, we actually sang a political song. It went over like a lead balloon, I think we might have done better with that crowd if we'd just lipsynched a Madonna song.
