I have many bad side effects from the androcur... so I am thinking of switching to spirolactone...I will
ask my endo next month (I visit a gender clinic) ...Is there anything I should know and be aware off??
Can I switch just like that? What tests needs to be done.
I will also ask my gender clinic but they made big mistakes before in my treatment... I just want to make
sure I am well informed...
Please help?
Love

Spironolactone side effects: http://www.drugs.com/sfx/spironolactone-side-effects.html (http://www.drugs.com/sfx/spironolactone-side-effects.html)
It is used mainly as a diuretic. It will save the potassium in your system so you may have to watch that you don't ingest too much potassium. It will cause you urinate more often, could be bothersome at night. You will sweat more when it gets warm, I went through 3 shirts a day at times this past summer with no air conditioning. I have never done that before.
As for getting off of the Andocur and onto Spironolactone, I would see your endo to see how that's done. Ando and Spiro may not mix well in your system.

Huh, and here I am thinking of switching to Androcur from Spiro. May I ask which side effects you're experiencing?
Having researched these far and wide, outright stopping Androcur is a big no no. You may get severe side effects. You'd need to slowly reduce the dose, and once off it, start with low spiro doses up to the point where the spiro dose would match Androcur's (Androcur is about 4 times stronger).
Here's the entry for it in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyproterone):
QuoteAbrupt withdrawal of cyproterone acetate can be harmful, and the package insert from Schering AG recommends that the daily dose be reduced by no more than 50 mg, at intervals of several weeks. The primary concern is the manner in which cyproterone acetate affects the adrenal gland. Due to its glucocorticoid activity, high levels of cyproterone acetate may reduce ACTH, resulting in adrenal insufficiency if discontinued suddenly. In addition, although cyproterone acetate reduces androgen production in the gonads, it can increase adrenal androgen production, in some cases resulting in an overall rise in testosterone levels
But yes, Spiro is a diuretic. You'll have to drink lots of water, you'll pee a lot. As far as sweating goes, I haven't had any problems at all.
yes please explain your bad side effects, im very interested since ive been on cypro for 5 months now and haven't had any obvious side effects of the drug yet
