Title: vitamin supliments

hey,
ive been considering in an effort to fool myself healthy of taking vitimin supplement pills, i understand that they are supliments and not a replacement of good diet, i also understand i might be making typos but do they work? some books and people say they do, other books and people say they dont. any further opnions? are they what they say, or are they produced by some cynic who has realised if you label anything "natural" or "organic" we will all buy it in droves

Hi there Harbour,

If you think that you need vitamin supplements to improve your health, the obvious way to go is through your daily diet.  However,  as there are so many different views on what is safe, what isn't, what is good, and what is not, I think you would be better served if you went to your doctor and ask for their advice.  It can't hurt, and may be they have some medical literature on the subject that will cast a different light on the subject.

Hi Harbour,

Welcome to Susans. My understanding is that vitamin supplements only work if you have deficencies in that vitamin. So that would say that yes your diet should provide what you need but if you need to boost the levels up to normalthan they should work.

One of the main things you have to be aware of with vitmain supplements is soluability. By that I mean do they disolve easily in a galss of water. If not then they are unlikely to disolve in your stomach. That would make them expensive waste material. As to what kind you should take I can't say. I have been very happy with GNC products but a regular bottle of Centrum or one a day can be just as good.

Another thing to remember is daily requirements. Taking more than is needed is just sluffed off by the body making for expensive urine. Also as Steph said your doctor or a professional nutritionist(Someone who went to school at an accredited nursing college etc.) would be the best ones to guide you in this area.

I take a fist full of vitamins and  supplements each day to control bi-polar disorder, and they seem to be doing the trick so far. I've been able to get off of anti-deppresants completely for the first time in 10 years, and I've been able to cut my one remaining medication from 5 a day to just one.

I always used to think they were a waste of time and money, but after much prodding from my SO I decided to try them. I can honestly say I feel the best ever, physically and mentally. I have a lot more energy now, and I get by on a lot less sleep. Give them a try for a while and see if you feel the difference.

thanks for the advice, but one thing is still holding me back, i did some reaserch on the vitamins reccomended and apperently some of them "encourage growth"

does this mean that they will make me taller? im only 20 andd since my hight is somewhere between 5'7 and 5'10 (havent properly measured myself) i dont really wanna go up in the world even an inch... am i just paranoid?

I'm pretty sure by 20 you're about as tall as you're ever gonna be. I dont think I grew a centimeter by time I reached 18, but stranger things have happened.
