Cut the pomegranate in quarters (on a plate, the juice will stain your cutting board) right through the fuzzy end. Hold a section underwater in the bowl, bending it and working the white stuff with your thumbs. The red arils sink, and the inedible white stuff floats. Pull out and discard the white stuff, strain and enjoy. Hugs, Devlyn

I can't believe I am saying this but I never had one! I have read that pomegranates are really high in anti-oxidants and nutrients and are considered a superfood in relation to cancer prevention but they looked intimidating to try and eat. This sounds really simple, I am getting some tomorrow! :)

I've been eating pomegranates for quite some time. Me and my friends used to pick them off of the tree and crack them open on our knees back in the late 1950's in the L. A. basin. Our knees and legs would get stained and sticky, but we didn't care about that. There is the San Gabriel Highway right where that tree was. The apartments where I lived in at the time is now part of a hospital parking lot.

There's a tree full of them in my parents yard. My mom never encouraged my siblings or I to eat them that often though, cause they apparently stain easily and...

Aren't pomegranates meant to have anti-testosterone or anti-androgenic properties?
My daughter eats them a lot. I don't care what they stain, as they keep her happy and entertained for longish periods of time. She just eats them with her fingers, vesicle by vesicle.
I love pomegranates. Unfortunately, they are really expensive here and I can't often justify spending three dollars for a fruit.
I score the skin with a knife and then tear it into chunks so I don't pop any of the seeds by cutting. Then I eat 'em bit by bit as I pull it apart. I usually end up with my mouth and hands covered in red. Since holidays are the time for treats, I just had one this morning.
I love pomegranates :) Not only do you not have to wear lipstick for awhile if you eat one :laugh: They
are really tasty and full of antioxidants and such
They have been in the store where I'm at also, but they are expensive :P Luckily, also at my store they have a Blueberry/Pomegranate juice made by
'Old Orchard' in the frozen juice section :) Tasty stuff
I think I probably will splurge and pick up a whole pom. though :)

We use to be able to pick them off trees when I was a kid in Calif. also :) I'd grab a few either going to school or while on my paper route and take them home to share with my mom and sisters

I eat mine like this aswell. Going through youtube and saw a video on this, and decided to go to "Publix" and buy two pomegranates.

Guilty as charged I'm a Pomegranater from way back in my childhood days in the UK, however it's only recently I found them again, and in the last month I've had 4....Leave in the fridge, they taste even better (it's summer here remember)...

Pomegranates are my guilty pleasure. I never knew about cutting it in a bowl of water! That is going to be magical when I try it.
I subscribe to the method of cutting one in half, holding it over a bowl cut-side-down and wapping the back with a wooden spoon. The water trick works best for getting all the seeds out in one piece but I think that takes too long. Saw this on Lifehacker.com but heres some random person on youtube showing how its done ^_^
