Ok so out of the blue one day I just decided I wanted to try and raise $10,000.02 (silly reason for the 2 cents part but lets just go along with it) from scratch and not touch any of the current money I have. I wanted to put it towards a one week vacation (Anime expo to be exact) and just save over a bunch of years to raise my goal but now I am thinking if by chance I actually raised that, it needs to go to top surgery. I'm unemployed currently and a full-time student living at home so in the meantime I'm selling my unwanted items on Craigslist and doing small odd jobs for $1 here and there and saving any unexpected cash and coins just for a little boost
My current total from the unexpected cash and coins, odd jobs, and Craigslist sales so far is $299.85 ($153 from Craigslist, $26.85 from coins, and $120 from the rest) which is FAR from what I need but it's better than nothing. I don't know when I am going to move and be more independent and my top surgery will probably be far off in the future. I am going to try my best NOT to touch this money (though it will probably be impossible). Hopefully in the future I can be on my own with a job and just save a portion of that to go towards the surgery too.
I'm just not sure I'm starting to save too early for surgery or not. It seems like a noble plan but could I be in over my head? When I get out on my own I intend to live frugally and to still organize my money accordingly. Your thoughts?
It's never too early. Also, top surgery isn't quite $10,000, at least in the US. Garramone in FL is around $6,000 (for reference). But aside from that I don't see why it wouldn't be a good idea to start saving up. If the money ends up needing to be used somewhere more "essential" so to speak, at least it is there.

He was the person I actually had in mind to do my top surgery but I was also factoring in that I would probably want the "Man Sculpture" technique that he does and hotel which I may just spend a few days sleeping in a car to save money, and the scenario of prices rising higher. Many things tend to be exaggerated in my mind too but I just do that to be on the safer side which in that case I should say $15 grand but for now I will just save up what I can so I won't feel overwhelmed.
I'd say it's never too late to start saving money, for anything. Go for it. If you end up not needing the whole $10k, put it toward something else.
I'm saving all my tips from work for my "cock fund" to pay for a prothetic yet Itll be years before ill actually get one.

Ah, alright then! Makes sense now. Go for it!
Edit: It's funny because I just realized I have about the same amount saved up for surgery as you so far. I haven't actually been actively accumulating it though, it mostly built up from various art contests I've been in. Just thought that was interesting!
I think It's never too early to start saving for anything. I save just to save. Never know when you gonna need it.
I don't have a job either, but I'm still saving up whatever I can scrounge up. I'm not even on hormones yet and I'm saving up for surgery. Granted, I'm saving up via a donation button on my personal website (which I'm actually doing commissions in art/writing for it, but the button keeps me from touching it until I reach my goal). Thanks to the button, I can even keep track of how much more I need.
its never to early to start saving ive started and im 2-3 years away from surgery and i have $1500 saved and its gonna take forever to save the rest.

$1500 sounds promisng about now. Now I want to go outside and look for pennies just to add to my top surgery funds. Any little bit helps so I get sooo excited when I find one on the ground. It all adds up. I actually at one point used a metal detector just to find them but it was a piece of junk kids version so I just sold that instead. $10 is better than a penny.
Like others have said - never too early! You will kick yourself in a year or however long when you're old enough or have the time off work/studies etc and the opportunity to get surgery but not the funds..
Maybe a high interest account - where it can earn itself more $$ while you don't touch it.. That's how I saved for mine, well that and plenty of OT :D lol
I'm going to be completely original and say it's never too early.
But really, it isn't.
