Title: Men's room: to go or not to go?
Post by: Kreuzfidel on January 06, 2012, 07:22:49 AM
I'll be looking to use the men's room soon for the first time with an STP.  Previously I've either used the disabled toilets or the stalls in the men's.  However I'm not confident using a urinal obviously in public until I have practice.  But another FTM site seems to treat using the men's room like defusing a bomb - one wrong move and you'll get a beating.  To those of you who use the men's room, how likely am I to be assaulted just for pissing?  I pass nearly 100% of the time and assumed cisguys paid little attention in the toilet.  Has anyone had run-ins using the men's room?

He sounds paranoid. Nah guys don't usually look at you. Only time I've had someone say something was in a nightclub mens room.
Don't stress. Just go for it.

I'm guessing the assault rate went right down when society became more comfortable with gay men.

I've had a couple of close calls.  Nothing that ever approached violence though.  When I was still relatively new to passing I was standing at the sink.  A man came in, saw me and gave a double take.  I had to reassure him that he was in the right bathroom.  He didn't, however, walk over and punch me.  Who does that?

A second time I had my young autistic son with me and he was afraid of the hand dryer.  He drew much unwanted attention to us, as it was a crowded gas station bathroom and I got some strange looks.  Once again I managed to escape with my face intact.

A third time was on gay pride day.  I was at a gay bar and discovered the lack of stall doors on the stalls.  I did my business as fast as possible but not fast enough.  Still I was not beaten up even when the guy had direct evidence.  In my experience most people want to avoid a conflict with a complete stranger if at all possible.

Now if I went into a seedy straight bar before I passed well then maybe I might have run into an altercation.  Only because those drunk men are looking for a fight.  So if you use your head on where you piss there shouldn't be an issue.

As long as you don't make eye contact with any of the guys, you won't be asking for a beating.
I use the men's locker room and no one has ever said anything to me.
As long as your Stp is attached to an stp packer, you should be fine, because if people do look at you (which people usually won't), it should be only a quick glance.

Use the urinal at the very end if there's a row. This gives room for guys to use any of the middle ones. Leave one urinal between yourself and somebody else. If that's an impossibility use a stall.

@Squirrel698 I would advise for using the handicap rooms whenever possible (when you have your son with you). At least you can have some control in a space like that. Probably something you already know.

I have been using the men's restroom for the past year ---- I just started T four days ago --- I pass less than 50% of the time ... I have never had a problem in the bathroom

Haha. Cis-guys do this too. It's part of that whole being terrified of intimacy with other guys thing.

Oh, I don't do it...I just heard that this is like...a common thing.

I'm pre-T, don't pass all that great, and still use the men's if I'm having a good day. I've had a few glances before, but really, as long as you're not eyeing everyone up and down, no one will do anything. If you pass, then it's no worry. No one ever pays attention, seriously. They're way too busy minding their own business pissing and then getting out.

Most guys don't wanna look at each other while expelling bodily wastes, so you should be good :'P. I never have issues in the men's room (except when there's a line and I'm about to leak! D:<!)

Thanks, guys.  I hoped that site was overexaggerating and you've put me at ease.  Thanks for the tips, too!  Can't have too many of those :)
