Title: Slowly coming out to my friends and family......
Post by: jacobRX8 on January 12, 2012, 06:39:22 AM
Well....so far I think I'm making a little progress with telling everyone. I told my friend sami yesterday and she's extremely supportive, which was a big relief considering how close we are. I've told quite a few friends now and two family members, I'm just working myself up to tell my mom. I'm still unsure on how its going to turn out, I just don't want to hurt her but I know I can't live in the dark forever either. But as I tell more people the better I feel, even at home my gf has started using the right terminology. Its unreal how good it feels to be called her man :). I'm just dreading telling my mom, she's the only parent I have.

Awesome! I'm glad you've gotten so much support so far. Having friends who support you is amazing. I have the same fear of telling my mom, I'm not sure how I'll ever figure out how to do it - but nothing wrong with taking your time until it feels easier, if it ever does. Good luck!

Nice you're coming along so far! I came out to my housemates today, actually. Pic related.

Good on you!  Maybe when you feel more at ease, you can bring along someone who knows and supports your being trans when you tell your Mom.

Congrats on coming out to those you have told thus far :)

As for your mom - that's probably the person it's hardest to tell, or at least I know it was beyond difficult for me. What I suggest is telling her you love her and therefore want to be as honest as possible about who you are..

I'm glad the steps you've taken feel good. :)

I put off telling my daughter forever, and now it's totally fine with her. I still haven't told my parents, but I haven't spoken to them in years anyway, so telling my kid is the only parallel I've got for the spot you're in. Best of luck.

Thanks again for the support :), I don't think I could thank you guys enough for the good advice. Two of my cousins that I've told that are extremely supportive told me that they will be there when I tell my mom, since they are family I believe it will make it easier to tell her with them there. Besides, they both say that they have always known they were just waiting for me to tell them. I'm actually considering telling mom is a few weeks, part of me feels once I tell her I will feel much much better. Id also be able to start using the right terminology and my name more, its kind of hard to hear a name that you've been branded with all of your life that doesn't fit especially when its the girliest name in the world. I'm just really glad that I've found a place where I have the support of other guys such as myself, it really does make a difference.
