Revisited: Was the "Transgender" Necessary in David O. Russell Reports?

I asked in a post earlier this week if the word "transgender" was necessary in the reports about David O. Russell groping the breasts of his 19-year-old niece, who just happens to be a trans person. Most of the media reports I saw identified the niece as a "Transgender" person in their headlines, as well as in the text of their articles.
