Title: Finding your size of hose (nylons)
Post by: Rosa on January 17, 2012, 02:01:42 PM
Ladies, I'm getting most of the size info down, but not for hose (stockings).  Can someone help me out so I don't end up wasting money on wrong sizes?  I wear a 12 1/2 shoe in mens but don't have big calfs.  Thanks for any help.

This is a hard one , store size's differ from one to another, but from what you are saying i'd aim for a medium, keeping in mind im from the U.K, it's all about trial and error.

Don't most hose have sizing charts on the package? Where you can look up your height and weight to see what size you wear? And maybe I've only seen cheap hose or something, but they seem to only come in two or three sizes.

I've actually never picked up a package of hose before, so if its the way you say, I won't have to many sizes to worry about.  I thought maybe they were like shoe sizes or something.

I can confirm this. I just bought a pair last night. The ones I bought I think had 4 different sizes (A-D) depending on your height and weight. They had a full chart to find your size on the package.

Not in LA. You don't really see girls <50 wearing them. Nothing against girls >50, it's just not something you see the younger generation wearing.

The main reason I thought I would, with a skirt or dress, is because my legs are not very flattering.  They are so white and have a few scars.

I thought this was funny. I did a google search for 'do girls still wear pantyhose?' and one of the first articles I puled up was apparently from a CD site called girl inside' or something. It's an interesting read, but maybe that's why it's a big deal here? Maybe in non natal forums it's a bigger deal or something?

http://www.thegirlinside.com/clothing/the-great-pantyhose-debate/ (http://www.thegirlinside.com/clothing/the-great-pantyhose-debate/)

"While the debate rages on in the genetic girl community, the issue seems to be more clear cut in the crossdresser and transgender community. Many genetic girls (and men) are quick to point out that a good pair of hose can make your legs look great, and that if properly fitted they aren't uncomfortable. On cooler days, or in cooler climates hose can keep your legs a little warmer, and many hose improve circulation making it easier to stand on your feet for long periods (if your job requires it.) For transgender women or crossdressers though I think the single biggest benefit is that hose can help smooth out the appearance of the legs and help them look more feminine."

That's what the article I posted was talking about, Robertina. I say do whatever makes you happy and makes you feel confident! Maybe ask a store clerk at a department store to help you find the right size and let them know what you are trying to accomplish. Happy shopping!

Yeah.... the US, never mind LA were you have hardly a winter.
They (natal females) seem to refuse to wear them in the coldest of winter in NY... AND wear skirts... I really don't like frozen Kitty :-) nah.

In SA it gets cold enough in winter to have something on your legs - other then tights, when we need to present a bit more on the formal side.

In fact we still soooo English, it be considered even bad form to show up with naked legs to some occasions in summer! Oh dea...

I stick to winter - and try leave summer to 'bad form' ... :-)

PS: hose and hold ups, make crossing legs also a lot easier (and sexier) - even with fat legs, he he

I always wear pantyhose. Pants, skirts, doesn't matter. I'm 43, BTW. I just like 'em.

I wear pantyhose during the winter months. I think does make my legs look good when wearing a skirt or a dress.

I wear it for the looks and a little extra warm in winter. I also love the feeling of pantyhose on freshly shaved legs.. one of the best feelings out there.

For me pantyhose has a special place in my cupboard.. it was the first piece of womans clothing i ever wore. It started everything.. I still have that very pair of pantyhose packed away. I cant wear them anymore.. but they are kept for the memory of that wonder day of discovery.

Support might be another reason.  I hate to think about it, but I think I may have a varicose vein in one leg and its been bothering me.  I'm to young to get old so soon  :o
