So, obviously part of this journey is trying to learn more about yourself as a person and how you interact with others/the world/yourself. One of the things I've gotten pretty into lately is the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. So-- learn more about yourself-- take the test and find your type-- http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp (http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp) Afterwards, learn more about your type here-- http://typelogic.com/ (http://typelogic.com/) Maybe post your favorite bit of the description-- the one that you think best describes you.
I'm an ENTP-- Extroverted Intuitive Thinking Perceiver
"Clever" is the word that perhaps describes ENTPs best. The professor who juggles half a dozen ideas for research papers and grant proposals in his mind while giving a highly entertaining lecture on an abstruse subject is a classic example of the type. So is the stand-up comedian whose lampoons are both funny and incisively accurate.
ENTPs are usually verbally as well as cerebrally quick, and generally love to argue--both for its own sake, and to show off their debating skills. ENTPs tend to have a perverse sense of humor as well, and enjoy playing devil's advocate. This sometimes confuses, even angers, those who don't understand or accept the concept of argument as a sport.
I enjoy quizzes like these. When I first starting taking the Myers-Briggs, I was an INTJ, but for several years I've been an INFJ.
"Beneath the quiet exterior, INFJs hold deep convictions about the weightier matters of life. Those who are activists -- INFJs gravitate toward such a role -- are there for the cause, not for personal glory or political power." "Though affable and sympathetic to most, INFJs are selective about their friends. Such a friendship is a symbiotic bond that transcends mere words."
"Introverted intuitives, INFJs enjoy a greater clarity of perception of inner, unconscious processes than all but their INTJ cousins." "INFJs...find themselves caught between the desire to express their wealth of feelings and moral conclusions about the actions and attitudes of others, and the awareness of the consequences of unbridled candor." "The INFJ's thinking is introverted, turned toward the subject. Perhaps it is when the INFJ's thinking function is operative that he is most aloof." "Many yearn to live spontaneously; it's not uncommon for INFJ actors to take on an SP (often ESTP) role."
Famous INFJs (supposedly): Jimmy Carter, Mother Teresa, Shirley Temple, MLK, Nelson Mandela, Carrie Fisher, Nicole Kidman, among others.
Are you sure that's not an ear nose & throat practitioner. ENTP. personally I'm a DICK! ;D Dick is the best word to describe a dick. Someone who tries to find humour in everything whilst laying on the sofa drinking rum&coke and watching spiderman ;)
I get something different most times I take this test. Often I'm an INTP, and I think that's closest to me right now.
Like this:
"INTPs are relatively easy-going and amenable to almost anything until their principles are violated, about which they may become outspoken and inflexible. They prefer to return, however, to a reserved albeit benign ambiance, not wishing to make spectacles of themselves."
If something violates something important to me, I rage. Otherwise, I'm the most timid, nonconfrontational person out there.
Also:
"A major concern for INTPs is the haunting sense of impending failure. They spend considerable time second-guessing themselves."
Yup.
;D I take great pleasure in consistently being INTJ. Sounds badass, Mastermind.
All Rationals are good at planning operations, but Masterminds are head and shoulders above all the rest in contingency planning. Complex operations involve many steps or stages, one following another in a necessary progression, and Masterminds are naturally able to grasp how each one leads to the next, and to prepare alternatives for difficulties that are likely to arise any step of the way. Trying to anticipate every contingency, Masterminds never set off on their current project without a Plan A firmly in mind, but they are always prepared to switch to Plan B or C or D if need be.
Masterminds are rare, comprising no more than one to two percent of the population, and they are rarely encountered outside their office, factory, school, or laboratory. Although they are highly capable leaders, Masterminds are not at all eager to take command, preferring to stay in the background until others demonstrate their inability to lead. Once they take charge, however, they are thoroughgoing pragmatists. Masterminds are certain that efficiency is indispensable in a well-run organization, and if they encounter inefficiency -- any waste of human and material resources -- they are quick to realign operations and reassign personnel. Masterminds do not feel bound by established rules and procedures, and traditional authority does not impress them, nor do slogans or catchwords. Only ideas that make sense to them are adopted; those that don't, aren't, no matter who thought of them. Remember, their aim is always maximum efficiency.
In their careers, Masterminds usually rise to positions of responsibility, for they work long and hard and are dedicated in their pursuit of goals, sparing neither their own time and effort nor that of their colleagues and employees. Problem-solving is highly stimulating to Masterminds, who love responding to tangled systems that require careful sorting out. Ordinarily, they verbalize the positive and avoid comments of a negative nature; they are more interested in moving an organization forward than dwelling on mistakes of the past.
Masterminds tend to be much more definite and self-confident than other Rationals, having usually developed a very strong will. Decisions come easily to them; in fact, they can hardly rest until they have things settled and decided. But before they decide anything, they must do the research. Masterminds are highly theoretical, but they insist on looking at all available data before they embrace an idea, and they are suspicious of any statement that is based on shoddy research, or that is not checked against reality.
As do other Introverted Thinkers, ISTJs often give the initial impression of being aloof and perhaps somewhat cold. Effusive expression of emotional warmth is not something that ISTJs do without considerable energy loss.
ISTJs are most at home with "just the facts, Ma'am." They seem to perform at highest efficiency when employing a step-by-step approach. Once a new procedure has proven itself (i.e., has been shown "to work,") the ISTJ can be depended upon to carry it through, even at the expense of their own health.
ISTJs are easily frustrated by the inconsistencies of others, especially when the second parties don't keep their commitments. But they usually keep their feelings to themselves unless they are asked. And when asked, they don't mince words. Truth wins out over tact. The grim determination of the ISTJ vindicates itself in officiation of sports events, judiciary functions, or an other situation which requires making tough calls and sticking to them.
Introverted Feeling
Since Fi is turned inward, it is rarely expressed. Perhaps this enables the ISTJ to resolutely accept that "we are all doomed."
Sounds like me for the most part.
INTJ
I had a professor that was into this and have taken the test online a few times. I always get INTJ.
I got INTJ. More specifically 67% introverted, 75% Intuitive, 50% thinking, and 11% judging.
"This happens in part because many INTJs do not readily grasp the social rituals; for instance, they tend to have little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirtation (which most types consider half the fun of a relationship). To complicate matters, INTJs are usually extremely private people, and can often be naturally impassive as well, which makes them easy to misread and misunderstand."
So true, I have very little patience with people. I hate when people call just to ask what your doing or how you are. If you don't have anything important or funny to say then don't call me because I don't care.
My favorite, Hannibal Lector was a INTJ. Yes, that is the best. That's right me and Hannibal Lector are on the same page.
INFP again.
About two years ago I got INFP (Dreamer), then last year when I did it again - it was ENFP (Advocate). ::)
"INFPs are introspective, private, creative and highly idealistic individuals that have a constant desire to be on a meaningful path. They are driven by their values and seek peace. Empathetic and compassionate, they want to help others and humanity as a whole. INFPs are imaginative, artistic and often have a talent for language and writing. They can also be described as easygoing, selfless, guarded, adaptable, patient and loyal."
"ENFPs are introspective, values-oriented, inspiring, social and extremely expressive. They actively send their thoughts and ideas out into the world as a way to bring attention to what they feel to be important, which often has to do with ethics and current events. ENFPs are natural advocates, attracting people to themselves and their cause with excellent people skills, warmth, energy and positivity. ENFPs are described as creative, resourceful, assertive, spontaneous, life-loving, charismatic, passionate and experimental."
I got INTJ again. Overall, the description fit me well.
I thought this was important: "INTJs know what they know, and perhaps still more importantly, they know what they don't know."
I did this test a long-ass time ago and I think I was INTJ.
55% introvert, 50% intuitive, 64% thinking, 44% judging.
EDIT: Weird that almost everyone here is introverted, while only 20% of the general population is. I guess that comes with having our emasculating condition.
I'm an INFJ. I love Myers Briggs :)
Wow. I think I'm the only E so far. And I'm just *barely* an E. I wonder if that's significant....
I did this twice and got 'ENFJ'.
Then I looked up the famous people who apparently also scored this type - Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, Clara Barton, and Ronald Reagan. Boring.

INTJ, and it's cool to see I'm not alone! In both the classes where I took this test, I was the only one in the room who was one.
Wow lots of introverts on here. I'm ENTP too.
"ENTPs are also quick to spot a kindred spirit, and good at acquiring friends of similar temperament and interests."
Devin, we should hang out. :P
Heh, one of mom's friends was learning to administer the real thing and I got to take it when I was 6 or 7. I was an INTP then, and now. It doesn't tend to change. Especially since, when I last took an online test, it was like.... 98% I, 80%N, 99% T, 22% P. What is commonly known as "extreme." Mom was even more off the charts- an INFP. The most polarised result the test administrator had ever seen.
I would guess the number of introverts here has less to do with being trans and more to do with the fact that people hanging around forums a lot are the kind of people who sulk online instead of going out and partying, etc. The internet is a solitary activity.
Oh, and relevant bits...
"may venture so deeply into thought as to seem detached, and often actually are oblivious to the world around them."
"INTPs are relatively easy-going and amenable to almost anything until their principles are violated, about which they may become outspoken and inflexible. They prefer to return, however, to a reserved albeit benign ambiance, not wishing to make spectacles of themselves."
"obsession with logical correctness. Errors are not often due to poor logic -- apparent faux pas in reasoning are usually a result of overlooking details or of incorrect context."
"aloof and detached in a way that might even offend more relational or extraverted individuals."
Famous INTPS:
Socrates, Newton, Einstein, Darwin, and theoretically Sherlock Holmes. Yes.
Some of the questions I didnt really understand :P But I got ESFJ. My percentages are super low tho.

It's really weird that this topic is here now, because I just had a conversation with a friend about personality types and had decided that I would re-test myself when I got home to see if mine had changed since I'd last taken it (about six years ago I think).
Every time I'd taken it in the past I had been an ENFP, but this time I was an ENTP - but pretty much on the borderline for the Thinking/Feeling.
Wow, so many ENTPs here. I'm an ENFP and I absolutely love you guys. It's a dangerous combination because we'll encourage you to actually do all those crazy ideas you're thinking about. Man, I'd give my left nut (if I had one) for an ENTP partner in crime right now. I'd never be bored again. ;D
Am I weird? ISFJ.

ISTJ, Introverted Sensing Thinking Judging for me.
"ISTJs are often called inspectors. They have a keen sense of right and wrong, especially in their area of interest and/or responsibility. They are noted for devotion to duty. Punctuality is a watchword of the ISTJ. The secretary, clerk, or business(wo)man by whom others set their clocks is likely to be an ISTJ. "
I'm not completely sure I agree. I do usually tend to be on time for things but only because I'm so eager to get there. Not being punctual for punctuality's sake, if that makes sense. Although, yes, I do have a keen sense of right and wrong and get very agitated if that's interrupted.
I really don't have a devotion to duty that I know of. Actually I'm a bit irresponsible to be truthful. Perhaps I should take the test again
This thread is actually interesting.
I was reading on Wikipedia about my personality type (INTJ) last night and it said we consider chatting and small-talk to be a waste of time. I laughed out loud when I read that. It was funny because earlier that day I had written a school assignment expressing that exact idea.
"ENFJs are the benevolent 'pedagogues' of humanity. They have tremendous charisma by which many are drawn into their nurturant tutelage and/or grand schemes. Many ENFJs have tremendous power to manipulate others with their phenomenal interpersonal skills and unique salesmanship. But it's usually not meant as manipulation -- ENFJs generally believe in their dreams, and see themselves as helpers and enablers, which they usually are.
ENFJs are global learners. They see the big picture. The ENFJs focus is expansive. Some can juggle an amazing number of responsibilities or projects simultaneously. Many ENFJs have tremendous entrepreneurial ability.
ENFJs are, by definition, Js, with whom we associate organization and decisiveness. But they don't resemble the SJs or even the NTJs in organization of the environment nor occasional recalcitrance. ENFJs are organized in the arena of interpersonal affairs. Their offices may or may not be cluttered, but their conclusions (reached through feelings) about people and motives are drawn much more quickly and are more resilient than those of their NFP counterparts.
ENFJs know and appreciate people. Like most NFs, (and Feelers in general), they are apt to neglect themselves and their own needs for the needs of others. They have thinner psychological boundaries than most, and are at risk for being hurt or even abused by less sensitive people. ENFJs often take on more of the burdens of others than they can bear."
I agree a with a lot of this, aside from being as risk to have hurt feelings. I have feelings of steel. It is funny, the last time I took this test, I was a INFJ. Guess the I got tired of hanging around.

Being INTJ I would agree and disagree with that. Small talk is important for putting people at their ease and helping them to relax. Small talk is unimportant when the task is focused, concise and urgent.
It depends what I am doing.
Beverley
Oh, yeah, I realize that it's probably important for putting others at ease. I just can't stand talking about nothing. I don't know what to say and it makes me uncomfortable because it doesn't come naturally. ???
INTJ, also.
The statistics here seem to reinforce the stereotype of guys tending to more often be Ts and women F. Or maybe some of us are overcompensating.

Not me. My T's my absolutely strongest trait. I'm barely Extroverted, pretty intuitive and solidly perceiving, but I'm like 90% thinking. I rationalize all my feelings and the feelings of others. I'm pretty good at *pretending* to care, but I very rarely do. I'm a total dick. And I'm to the point now where I can accept that about myself. I'm not completely proud of it (a little, maybe), but I accept it.

It would seem you reinforce this stereotype then if you are a thinking?

Right. I meant "not me" as in I'm not just overcompensating.
INTP. Apparently I'm supposed to love math? I failed algebra in high school. I think that's because I'm dislexic with numbers though.

I'm INTP and hate math too - only abstract math though.
I love science though.

I was INTP forever, and a couple months ago I think I got EN something, and tonight I got INFJ.

I'm type ENFP: Extraverted Intuitive Feeling Perceiving
"ENFPs are both "idea"-people and "people"-people, who see everyone and everything as part of a cosmic whole. They want to both help and to be liked and admired by other people, on both an individual and a humanitarian level. This is rarely a problem for the ENFP, as they are outgoing and warm, and genuinely like people. Some ENFPs have a great deal of zany charm, which can ingratiate them to more stodgy types in spite of their unconventionality.
...
ENFPs can be the warmest, kindest, and most sympathetic of mates; affectionate, demonstrative, and spontaneous. Many in relationships with an ENFP literally say, "They light up my life." But there is usually a trade-off: the partner must be willing to deal with the practical and financial aspects of the relationship, and the ENFP must be allowed the freedom to follow their latest path, whatever that entails."
Hahah holy crap that part I put in bold made me laugh. Sounds like my life there hahah derp.

INFPs have the ability to see good in almost anyone or anything. Even for the most unlovable the INFP is wont to have pity.
- that part's bang on for me.
I took the test and I'm surprised with the result -- I got INFP, but in the past I used to get INTP. Reading the description of INFPs, and this line stuck out to me:
"As INTPs tend to have a sense of failed competence, INFPs struggle with the issue of their own ethical perfection, e.g., performance of duty for the greater cause."
holy shiiiiiit that is me in a nutshell. I always thought my fear of incompetence that meant I was INTP, but maybe I've been an INFP this whole time. Ah well. :D
